Counter Terrorism Conference Held in Bethpage

Representatives from the United States Coast Guard (pictured above) as
well as the Connecticut State Police (below) participated in the STAR-COM
Conference which was held on February 8 in Bethpage.
Town of Oyster Bay Public Safety Commissioner Justin McCaffery,
Legislator Ed Mangano and Suffolk County Police Aviator and Bethpage
resident Gene Sengstacken were on hand to discuss public safety issues
and concerns.

This multi state STARCOM Conference was attended by a mutlitude ofgov-ernemnent
and departmental officials including Nassau County Legislator Ed
Mangano (far right) County Executive Thomas Suozzi (second from right)
and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice (fourth from right).

Nassau County Legislator Edward Mangano joined with County Executive
Thomas Suozzi, District Attorney Kathleen Rice and the Nassau County Police
Department at the STARCOM Task Force "Fly In" at its monthly meeting held
at police aviation "Hangar 7" in Bethpage on February 8.
Participating in this conference was the Nassau County Police Department.
Town of Oyster Bay Public Safety, the Suffolk County Police Department, New
York City Police Department, New York State Police, Connecticut State Police,
New Jersey State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Coast
Guard, Air Station Atlantic City, United States Coast guard Air Station Cape
Cod., customs and Border Protection and the Air National Guard Rescue.
Stop Terrorism Aggressive Response Coordinated Operation Management
(STARCOM) is a multi-agency law enforcement Task Force that effectively
employs its combined street, maritime and aviation resources to combat crime
and terrorism and collect and analyze intelligence. It provides each agency a
common operating picture that helps improve response time and reduces redundancy.
The conference concerned matters such as interagency cooperation for firsf*
responders, notifications and deployment resources. The basis of the monthly
STARCOM meetings are to maintain the collaborative effort of a tri-state law
enforcement effort to address Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism issues.
Legislator Mangano thanked the participating agencies for taking the initiative
to establish an effective tri-state communication network to share intelligence
and maximize the effectiveness of resources in the event of a natural disaster
or an act of terrorism.
