Police Officers Honored For Service
On April 20th the Charles
Wagner American Legion Post 421
honored several Police Officers in
our area for their exemplary service
to the community.
Officer Davis and Vasturino while
working plainclothes enforcement
in RMP 237, were at the intersection
of Kansas Street and Kuhl
Avenue canvassing the area in
search of suspects involved in an
armed robbery at a BP gas station
on north Broadway in Hicksville.
The officers observed a suspicious
grey vehicle with dark tinted windows
stopped in the roadway.
Officers approached the vehicle and
identified themselves as police officers.
The officers detected a strong
odor of marijuana coming from
inside the vehicle. When the operator
was asked to exit the vehicle for
further investigation, he rolled the
windows up and locked himself in
the car. The officers were unable to
see inside the car because of the
tinted windows. The operator then
started to move the vehicle in
reverse causing officers to jump out
of the way. Officer Davis in fear of
officer safety used his flashlight to
break the drivers side window in an
attempt to stop the vehicle. The
officers then struggled to remove
the operator and place him under
arrest. A plastic bag containing
marijuana was observed in plain
view inside the vehicle. After conducting
a lawful vehicle search, a
loaded .25 caliber handgun and 76
pills believed to be the drug
Ecstasy were recovered. The operator
of the vehicle is an admitted
member of the gang Folk Nation.
Information obtained at the scene
led to the arrest of another subject
for criminal possession of controlled
substance. The officers
actions led to the arrest of a subject
for Criminal Possession of a
weapon 3rd Degree during the
month of March 2006.
For their professionalism, self-initiative
and investigative skills,
Police Officers Jonathon R. Davis
and John Vasturino received the
American Legion Award.

Award as well was Police Officer
Stephen Perota from the 8th
Precinct. The Charles Wagner
American Legion Post 421 honored
Police Officer Perota for his excellent
service and activity over the
past twelve months as well as for
the foiling of a commercial burglary
ring, which resulted in the arrest
of 3 people that were burglarizing
the local businesses in the 8th
Precinct. Police Officer Perota is
also responsible for 17 DWI arrests
in 2006 making our roadways safer
for everyone. Congratulations to
