Winter Arrives With An Icy Blast!
Icicles made every tree and shrub glisten. Trees outside of the John F. Kennedy Middle School were completely encased in ice.
Cupid arrived on time this Valentine's Day but it seems this year he was
accompanied by his friend Old Man Winter, who apparently was in quite an icy
A Toast to Success!
Bethpage welcomes Andy Panetta, the new owner of Bethpage Wines &
Liquors to the Bethpage community. Although so many people already know
Andy from town, many may not be aware that he and his wife Pat are the
proud new owners of Bethpage Wines & Liquors. Pictured above is Andy
receiving a congratulatory citation from Legislator Edward Mangano, who
was on hand for the fantastic ribbon ceremony which was held last month.
The entire community wishes Andy and his family the best of luck.
mood, as he brought with him a frigid nor'easter that started with hail late
in the evening on Tuesday and turned Valentine's Day into quite an icy,
snowy and freezing mess! After weeks of wondering where winter was this
year, it seems as though we have just received a pretty stern reminder that
there is plenty of time left for snow and frigid temperatures. Wednesday's
storm has left many without power due to the ice which has formed over
electric wires and a record number of accidents were reported as motorists
found themselves defenseless on slippery and dangerous roadways.
Apparently on Wednesday there was not enough snow for plows to be
effective, and the snow, which turned to rain and then hail turned everything
into a dangerous nightmare for everyone trying to get somewhere.
The storm which lasted most of the day on Valentine's Day was responsible
for the 2 hour delayed start of schools in Bethpage on Thursday as
well as the delay and closing of many other schools all across Long Island.
Forecasters have predicted that freezing temperatures will prevail for the
next several days and so it looks like this ice isn't going anywhere anytime
soon.
