Bethpage Students Honor Excellence
And Salute Their Teachers With
Recognition and Thanks
Nine members of the Bethpage MS Class of 2008 each honored three teachers who
School District's "Celebration of Excellence" Dinner. These students were later rec
For the fourth consecutive year, Bethpage High School conducted the
"Celebration of Excellence" Awards Night Dinner, an opportunity for nine
graduating seniors to each acknowledge three teachers (one from each of the
three Bethpage Schools they attended) that have had the greatest positive
influence on them throughout their K-12 education.
Three of the students honored JFK Middle School Science teacher Chris
Pollatos. while two honored Kramer Lane teacher Carrie Castles. Derek
Boundelmonte, who led off the ceremony, was among them, selecting Ms.
Castles (Kramer Lane F.S). Mr. Pollatos (JFK MS), and James Miller
(Bethpage US). Each student gave a brief, heartwarming speech about the
teachers they selected, explaining the profound impact each had on them.
The teachers were presented with a plaque of recognition and were congratulated
by Bethpage Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard S. Marsh and
Hoard of Education President Michael Kelly.
"We call tin:, the 'Recognition of Excellence' Dinner for it is held m honor
of teachers who have inspired their students," said Dr. Marsh, who closed the
evening with a warm poem addressed to the 24 teachers being honored, symbolizing
how they have impacted the minds and hearts of their students.
"Thank you so much for all you have done and all you continue to do," he
added.

Deborah Stehlik (Kramer Lane FS), James Coscete (JFK MS), and James
Stehlik (Bethpage US); Sandhya Kastun recognized Carrie Castles (Kramer
Fane F.S), Annie Marie Stanley (JFK MS), and Brian Ginty (Bethpage US);
Courtney LaSpina chose Barbara Cataldi (Central Boulevard ES), Monica
Klein (JFK MS), and Jon LaRochester (Bethpage US); Lindsay Trugman
selected Laura LaMassa (Charles Campagne ES), Jennie Murphy (JFK MS),
and Carrie Treadwell (Bethpage US); and Rachel Vietheer honored Maura
Olsen (Kramer Fane ES), Janice Yale (JFK MS), and Suzanne Rankin
(Bethpage US).
Congratulations to all of the teachers and the students who selected
them. Special thanks to Aramark Corporation ami Food Services Director
Kym Faker for providing the complimentary dinner and dessert, and the
Bethpage High School Jazz Band (under the direction of Mr. Stehlik) for
performing, flic nine students were presented with a cake at the close of the
ceremony, congratulating them for their years of achievement in Bethpage.
