Golden Eagles are Conference III Champs Again
For the 14th year in their storied
season, the Bethpage High
School Golden Eagles, led by
the only coach they have ever
known and another bulldozing
running attack, won a County
championship. This year, the
team defeated the Lynbrook
High School Owls to claim the
Nassau Conference III title. The
team will meet Sayville High
School this Friday afternoon at
Hofstra to determine the Long
Island Class III champ.
Congratulations to Head Coach
Howie Vogts and the entire
squad. Coach Vogts continues to
add to his legacy as the win-ningest
coach in New York State
high school football history. This
year, his Golden Eagles were led
by Quarterback Kyle Crotty at
the helm. While Crotty led the
charge for the team all year, it
was junior running back Joe
Loria who scored both touchdowns
in the team's 14-7 title
win over Lynbrook. Running
back Greg Zalewski and his 162
rushing yards set up both runs
and controlled the ballgame for
the Eagles. Kicker Cory Alfred
was perfect on both extra-point
attempts in the title game.
Bethpage defeated W. Tresper
Clarke High School a week earlier
to advance to the Conference
final.
