Presently the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce is conducting their yearly
membership drive. This year however, the Chamber is taking it to the streets by
walking door to door. Chamber representatives will be walking to each and
every business in the Bethpage area to offer them membership into this active
and vita organization in the Bethpage community. And if you are asking why it
is so important to join the Chamber, they will certainly tell you why.
Each year the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce hosts many community
activities that not only provide activities and enjoyment for Bethpage residents
but also arc a way to showcase your business and or service. Activities such as
the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce Summer Festival and the upcoming Fall
i [arvest Festival (October 29) allow Chamber members to display their merchan
disc o\- explain their service to the ten; of thousands of folks who attend. They
also sponsor a downtown beautificatio i )roject, which certainly improves the
look of the downtown-shopping district. During the holidays the Chamber is
responsible tor lighting up the skies with their annual Holiday Lighting
Extravaganza. 1 his event brings the enure community together to share in the
magic of the season as well as decorates the business district with beautiful
strands of lights. Each year this venture costs well over $12,000 but has proven
to be an extremely worthwhile project.
In addition to many community projects the Chamber also provides students
with scholarships and has just started a Bethpage Chamber of Commerce Junior
League for youths over 13. The BCCJL is a way to instill students with community
pride as well as an avenue to perform service to their community. And residents
are certainly welcome to join the Chamber FREE of charge so that they,
too. can be a part of their activities and project.
So, if you were still asking yourself why should 1 join the CharftrJer o\~
Commerce the answer plainly put would be that you are making an investment
in your own community. Your involvement in the Chamber as well as your support
of their projects and ventures will provide you particular business with
allow residents to become acquainted with the goods and or services you offer.

Bethpage residents. Clearly put membership means that you are interested in the
community you have chosen to do business in and that you are concerned about
mriking it a better place.
Resident' in turn can show their support by shopping local and supporting
Chamber members. While at times, it may cost you a bit more to use local merchant
as opposed to a big box store, it is the best money you could ever spend as
it will insure that Bethpage's downtown area is strong and prosperous which in
turn makes your town and your home more valuable. Downtown areas are the
life force o! anj community and to lose them would be a true deterioration of
what suburbia is all about.

Bethpage Chamber of Commerce simply attend one of our meetings or reach the
Chamber by calling Charlie at 938-4573 or Linda at 681-0440 ext 21. Our next
meeting will take place on September 25 at 7:00pm at the PAL Hall on Stewart
Avenue. Light snacks and refreshments will be available. Businesses can take
advantage of this special membership drive as the Chamber is waving the membership
fee for the remainder of 2006 and will make your membership fee of
SI25 valid until 2008!!! You get almost six months FREE and will be able to
participate in all of the Chamber's events and activities. So when you see our
representative in your place of business, make a pledge to make Bethpage a better

The Bethpage School District welcomed back students on Wednesday, September 6.
Despite the usual minor growing pains that occur during the first few days of getting
acclimated to new schedules, schools, and routines, the opening of school was a successful
one. With the start of the 2006-2007 school year comes the reminder to drive
safely and also sincere wishes for a successful school year
