Happy 100th Birthday Take Rachel's Challenge
Jane Thompson entering her 100th year, with daughter Mary
Jane Pendl listening to the Proclamation from the Town of
Oyster Bay Supervisor, John Venditto, being presented by
James Beaudille, Chief of the Bethpage Fire Department.
On February 1, 2006, the family
of Columbine victim Rachel Scott
will come to Bethpage High School
to present a powerful assembly
program illustrating the importance
of helping every student feel
connected to his or her school
community. Through Rachel's
writings and actions, the presenters
challenge students to be proactive
and to start a "chain reaction" of
kindness and compassion in their
school and community.
Rachel's Challenge is a program
that inspires, instructs and enables
students to bring positive changes to
their community. Intriguing
video/audio footage of Rachel's life
and the Columbine tragedy hold
students spellbound during a one-hour
school presentation. This
character education program will
emphasize tolerance, compassion
and is designed to help students
make positive choices and motivates
them to make positive changes in
the way they treat others.
That same evening, the Rachel's
Challenge speaker conducts a
session with parents and community
leaders. This session is similar to
the student assembly and concludes
with specific challenges to parents
and community leaders, which ask
"how can we, as a community,
reinforce the decisions our youth are
making7"
We encourage you to attend the
inspirational evening portion of the
program at 7:00 PM on February 1 '
in the high school auditorium For

Challenge, please visit
