Town of Oyster Bay Dedicates Borella Field
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and the Oyster Bay Town Board
recently dedicated Borella Field, a new sports complex in Bethpage.
"The acquisition and development of the 10.27-acre Borella Field into
much-needed playing fields for sports leagues will ensure that this important
recreational facility will he preserved forever lor the enjoyment and use of
Town residents." Supervisor Venditto said.
Borella Field features three baseball fields - two Little League diamonds
and one regulation diamond - and one soccer field. In addition, the property
will soon have a new- ga/.ebo and playgrounds. It is located on the west side
of Plainview Road, just north ofFams Drive.
"The Borella Field complex is just one of the exciting new parks that is
being made possible with SEA (Save Environmental Assets) Fund money."
Supervisor Venditto said. "By acquiring this valuable parkland from the
Bethpage School District, we are expanding recreational opportunities for the
entire Bethpage community and beyond."
At the dedication ceremony, the Supervisor thanked the school district for
its friendship and assistance in the Town's attaining the fields. He also
thanked all the organizations involved in making sure that additional recreational
fields were available to local children.
"New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg once said, 'Great cities are
defined as much by their parks and open spaces as they are by their architecture.'
and 1 believe the same can be said of the importance of parks in suburban
communities," Supervisor Venditto commented. "The Borella Field complex
will be a centerpiece for the community and will offer our young people
top-flight playing fields. I look forward to seeing this complex become a hub
of activity for the many sports leagues that are already lining up top use it."
Supervisor Venditto recognizes William Borella, an original owner of the
'Borella Field' complex. In the interest of historic continuity, the Town
named the complex in the honor of the Borella family. The Supervisor is
joined by fellow Town officials Councilman Joe Muscarella,
Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker, Councilwoman Beth Faughnan and
Town Clerk Steve Labriola; as well as Legislator Ed Mangano and, representing
Senator Carl Marcellino, Steve Gonzalez. The officials are shown
