Is Blooming in Bethpage
: . < : ^ •
..*f-
You may have noticed all of the beautiful
flowers gracing the planters along
Broadway. They look wonderful thanks
to the dedicated residents and organizations
who took part in the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce Adopt-a-Planter
Program, this program was designed to
help beautify the downtown. From the
looks of things it seems as many of the
sponsors are quite serious about gardening
and maintaining these planters
as Broadway never looked better or
more colorful. At the end of the season
a winning planter will be selected and
that winner will receive a $200 prize.
In the up and coming weeks each
planter will have a sign with the sponsors
name attached to the front so that
these marvelous gardeners can get the
credit they deserve.
Keep up the good work. It looks
great!

National Day of Prayer Observed
May 4, 2006, being the first Thursday in May, has been designated
this year's National Day of Prayer, a day set aside by law for Americans
to come together, pause from their daily activities and pray for their
nation, its leaders (both local and national) and for peace and harmony.
This is of particular importance in these times when there is so much
unrest and when the United States has troops exposed to danger in various
parts of the world, and in light of the September 11th attacks on our
nation. Only by humbly turning to God in prayer can we can hope for His
intervention on our behalf.
The first Day of Prayer was called by the Continental Congress in
1775. In 1952, Congress passed a joint resolution, signed by President
Harry S. Truman, establishing an Annual Day of Prayer. The law was
amended in 1988, and signed by President Ronald Reagan, permanently
setting the day as the fust Thursday in May; this year May 4th.
