improvements. Members (left to right) Len MulQueen, Bob Albertson, Mary

Nassau Legislator Edward Mangano is pleased to announce that the
County Legislature has approved a project he initiated to improve phase 2 of
Operation Downtown. Mangano with the unanimous support of the Nassau
County Rules Committee approved the construction contract bid award for
the major streetscape improvement on Broadway in Bethpage. This project
picks up where phase 1 left off. Phase 1 included new sidewalks, brick
pavers, old fashion lighting, trash receptacles and tree plantings from
Broadway to Washington Street.
Phase 2 improvements are slated to begin on south end of Broadway from
Central Avenue north to Washington Street. Legislator Mangano stated" I am
thrilled the project is moving forward. It will enhance the area, help local
business and join the other beautification projects already installed on
Broadway." Legislator Mangano thanked the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce and all the local groups and residents who have adopted the phase
1 planters. Their efforts in maintaining and improving the planters are a testament
to the pride Bethpage residents have in our community and is evidence
of the value of fighting for improvements. Mangano further thanked the
Bethpage Community Council for their support and suggestions for further
improvements. At a recent meeting with the Council, members requested the
pedestrian crossing pavement markings be replaced on Broadway. Legislator
Mangano is pleased to report the pavement markings have been replaced.
Phase two includes installing Brick Pavers, new sidewalks, handicap
accessible walkways and old fashion lighting and trees. Presently, if all stays
on schedule construction is anticipated to take approximately 120 days and is
anticipated to commence July/August 2006. As in Phase 1, accommodations
have been provided to insure local businesses remain open and accessible to
consumers during construction. For additional information contact Legislator
Edward P. Mangano at 516-571-6217.

Happy Mother's Day
This weekend we pay tribute to our moms. Those always loved ladies who
give tirelessly of themselves. Recently, a friend asked me what I thought my
biggest accomplishment was. The one thing that I have done that makes me
the proudest. Hands down myanswer wasLy child™. Being a mother has
given me a true sense of who I am and what is important. Motherhood
changes everything and puts your life in perspective.
The strange part however is as time goes on I am sounding more and more
like my mother. I very often find myself saying the very same things that she
said to me years ago to my children now. I know I worry about the same
things and I am starting to agree with everything that I once thought my
mother was so wrong about. . * . . . • • " • '.
I think that is the very gift that mothers give to their children. An inner
light so to speak that seems to turn on when we Become parents. Although my
mom is not with me anymore she really is;; Her values, her sense of priority,
her dedication and unfortunately her worry. Every lesson she taught me growing
up seems to^urfece at one time or another and even though she's not here
she really always is. /C"! have matured all of what made me question my
mom's thinking js what I have grown to respect the most. She loved me
enough to say no, and cared enough to always put me first. She was always
there for me and I can honestly say she never ever let me down.
So to moms everywhere we say thank you for the gift. That wonderful gift
that is inside us alt that allows us to remember your love, cherish your compassion,
respect your judgement, applaud your tireless devotion, marvel at
your patience, leant from your experience and above all crave your meatballs!!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! Uvt.
