Plainedge Family
Spreads Some Cheer at
Ronald McDonald House
SNOW-MORE WINTER!
Shannon and Kevin Fritz of Plainedge visit the House with their children,
Taylor and Heather.
The Fritz family of Plainedge came to the Ronald McDonald House
recently and brought 16 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the delight of the
families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.
According to Shannon Fritz, whose six year-old daughter, Taylor is a
member of Brownie Troop. 3237 of Plainedge, they came to "spread
some cheer" and revisit. "Our daughter, Heather had heart surgery two
years ago and we wanted to give back to the House for their wonderful
help while we were here," said Ms. Fritz. "It was a relief to be at the
House, so I could be at Heather's side."
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is a home-away-from-home,
a temporary lodging facility for seriously ill children and their
families who must travel to area hospitals for urgently needed medical
care. A $5 million building project, launched in November 2001 enabled
the expansion of the facility, more than doubling its size and extending
vital services to hundreds of additional families in need.

It seems like Mother Nature has decided to once again remind us that although the
date makes us feel as though winter is over, she will not. On Thursday, March 2
Bethpage and the surrounding areas were treated to another blast of winter.
Forecasters had predicted that the snow would continue until the evening hours
leaving us with anywhere between 2 and 5 inches of snow. As the Tribune went to
press approximately 2-3 inches of snow had fallen already, forcing the cancellation
of all afterschool activities. What we hope will be winter's last hurrah, will no doubt
wreak havoc on the evening commute as the snow is said to turn to icy rain.. We
wait and see!
Sweet Success for Local Girl Scouts
Junior Girl Scout Troop 3004, (pictured here at their recent Investiture ceremony)
had a resounding success with their Booth Cookie Sale on February 25th 2006. The
girls would like to thank Joe at Stuff-a-Bagel for allowing them to set up in front of
his store. They would also like to thank all those pedestrians and shop owners who
bought cookies. In addition to selling cookies, the scouts took donations to purchase
Girl Scout Cookies to be sent to members of the Armed Forces serving throughout
the world. They are sure the Troops will really enjoy a taste of home!
