Nassau County Legislator Ed Mangano and School Board Member Mike
Kelly presented Kevin with a plaque of congratulations
For many people American Idol has become a weekly television obsession
From watching those early and at times hilarious auditions to rooting for your
favorite Idol in the grand finale, millions of Americans find themselves glued
to their televisions each week with a bad case of Idol fever.
A little bit of that Idol excitement made its way to the JFK Middle School
in Bethpage on May 11. Kevin Covais, the teenage singing talent, visited the
school's spring dance to wish everyone well and sing for the hundreds of excited
students in attendance.
Kevin, who was accompanied by his father John, barely made it into the
JFK parking lot before he was spotted, which started the frenzy of screaming
"Kevin" fans. He then made his way into the school gym where he was named
a Bethpage Honorary Eagle. In fact our very own Bethpage Eagle mascot was
on hand to present him with his official Bethpage sweatshirt.
School Board member Mike Kelly presented Kevin with a beautiful plaque
congratulating him on his success on American Idol as well as for being a wonderful
and positive role model for young people. JFK Principal Kerri
McCarthy was on hand to congratulate Kevin as well as to thank him for
attending the school's spring dance.
Kevin went on to wish everyone well and to thank the Bethpage School
District and for making him feel so welcome. He then sang "When I Fall in
Love", which was the last song that he sang on American Idol before being
continued on paye G
