The Butehorn Bros. Post 4987
Veterans of Foreign Wars of
Bethpage had their annual
Christmas party for all the "old
soldiers" and their wives. The
Sterling Caterers where it was held
on Sunday the 11th of Dec. looked
like a flower shop as Emil's of
Bethpage donated that huge crop
of beautiful plants.
Barry Grohosky the General
Manager of the Sterling did
everything in his power to make the
day absolutely perfect for the
veterans. Next we had John
Catalanotto's music and the
evening was complete. John is one
of the "old soldiers" a member of the
Post. His music is remembered
when he played for 100th
anniversary of the VFW in the library
in 1999 in front of our local peopie
and all the dignitaries and visitors of
other VFW post's on Long Island.
His music had the Sterling jumping.
Unfortunately the Post
Past Cmdr Bud Rosch)
Commander Francis Meehan was ill
and could not attend and our
Quartermaster who has arranged the
whole party Vito DeFanis was in the
hospital having a knee medical
procedure and he was not there.
The Quartermaster gave instructions
to Past Cmdr. Bud Steubing and he
did an excellent job. Yes! reports
from all the members and their wives
state they had a most wonderful
party with excellent food. Bob Imhof,
a member that we have not seen for
some time because of medical
problems was there with his lovely
wife and we were all pleased to see
him with us. Bob was always a real
working member and did whatever
he could to help.
We even had extra entertainment
the bartender sang the song "After
the Loving" an old favorite of
"Engelberi Humperdink" the famous
singer. You will see photos here of
" e occasion.

Bethpage Hosts Another Successful
Ho Ho Ho Holiday Run
The Greater Long Island Running Club, headed by President Mike
Polansky, recently sponsored their 18th annual Ho Ho Ho Holiday Run
through the streets of Bethpage. The 5 kilometer run started at Bethpage
High School, following a 1/4 mile fun run for kids age 10 and under and
a "costume parade." A major portion of the proceeds from this event are
being donated to the "Bretton Bowl," "The Maurer Foundation for Breast
Health Education" and "The Tender Loving Care Foundation." Pictured,
from left, are Senator Kemp Hannon, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman
Elect Elizabeth Faughnan, Oyster Bay Town Coucilwoman Rose Walker,
and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Thomas Venditto. (Second photo
includes costume parade participants.)

The 18th annual Carter, DeLuca,
Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday
Hun, held on the roads of Bethpage
on December 17, was a tremendous
success. There were nearly a
thousand finishers in the 5K Hun
and nearly a hundred youngsters in
the 1/4 Mile Fun Run that preceded
the main event The net result is that
several local charities, including the
"Bretton Bowl" fund for needy
Bethpage families, the Maurer
Foundation for Breast Health
Education, and the Tender Loving
Care Foundation tor premature
infants, will each receive substantial
contributions. In addition, the
geneious toy donations by the
participants will allow many
disadvantaged children to have a
more festive Holiday through the
event's partnership with Mercy First.
Special congratulations to top
overall finisher Sean Hopkins of
Brookhaven, and to Donna
McMahon of Farmingdale, who
scored as the first woman overall.
Award winners from Bethpage
included Paula MacCulloch, who
