Utility Poles Are Taken Down After Negotiations With LIP A
By Linda Mangano
Last week in the Tribune, we
reported on the LIP A project,
which was haulted due to the
efforts of Legislator Ed
Mangano along with
Supervisor John Venditto,
Senator Carl Marcellino and
LIP A Chairman Richard
Kessel. This project
incorporated the installation
of approximately 90 eighty-foot
electric poles, which were
slated to be erected from
Hicksville, through Bethpage
and continue on towards
Farmingdale.
We are pleased to report
that as we are going to press
these poles are coming down
one by one. After negotiations
with Legislator Mangano and
Richard Kessel it has been
decided that the electric wires
will be buried underground,
leaving the landscape of our
town in tact.
"The utility poles were
unsightly, unhealthy and just
plain wrong for our
community. I am elated that
LIP A Chairman Richard
Kessel worked with us to stop
the work, remove the poles
and initiated a plan to bury the
lines under existing roadways.
This is a win-win for the
residents of Bethpage,
Hicksville and Farmingdale
and it will ensure a steady
supple of electricity for all the
residents of Nassau County. "
Pictured left to right are Legislator Edward Mangano, LIPA Chairman Richard Kessel,
Senator Carl Marcellino and Town Supervisor John Venditto. In the background you can
see the 80 foot poles which are now coming down as a result of discussions between local
officials and LIPA.
said Legislator Mangano.
Richard Kessel, LIPA
Chairman stated, " After
working with Legislator Ed
Mangano, Supervisor Venditto
and Senator Carl Marcellino it
was brought to my attention
the communities concern
about the poles that were
erected for the new Calpine
Generating Plant. Residents
were concerned about the
esthetics. After talking with the
local officials we decided to
remove the poles so that we
could work with the
community which is what we
strive to do always. "
As of the writing of this
article only 13 of the 90 poles
are remaining and they are
being removed as well.
