VOL. 42 NO. 44 December 10-16, 2004 FORTY CENTS
By Linda Mangano
The air was crisp yet it was
much warmer than normal as the
Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
held their Annual Holiday
Lighting Ceremony at 7pm in the
center of town on December 5.
This year's event attracted over
600 residents who came out to be
a part of the lighting of our
beautiful Menorah as well as our
gorgeous 30-foot tree.
The evening began with the
beautiful voices of the St. Paul's
Junior Choir who infected each
and every resident with true
holiday spirit. Rabbi Gordon of
the Bethpage Jewish Center then
spoke to the crowd as to the
importance of the season as well
as to wish everyone a happy and
healthy holiday. Also on hand
from the Bethpage Jewish Center
were Barry Charles and the
Jewish Center's Cantor. Pastor
Mario Ancira took the
microphone next offering a
touching prayer as well as his
wishes to all for a wonderful
holiday season.
The Chamber was elated to
have many local officials on
hand for this special event.
Legislator Ed Mangano spoke to
the crowd and also introduced
Town Supervisor John Venditto
and Councilpersons, Angelo
Delligatti, Joe Muscarella, Rose
Walker and Town Clerk Steve
Labriola.
And then the show began. No
Holiday Lighting Ceremony
would be complete without the
fabulously talented Normettes
from Norma's School of Dance.
This year Bethpage's own
glorious toy soldiers displayed
their true talent as they
performed their Dance of the Toy

Bethpage PAL Midget Eagles
Win Super Bowl
On Tuesday, November 30th,
the Bethpage P.A.L. Midget Eagles
played Valley Stream in the Super
Bowl. The final score was Bethpage
26 - Valley Stream 6. The victory was
a dream come true to these boys as
well as the coaches and parents. A
victory this big has been in the
making for these players for as many
as five to six years. The practices
began in August and were three
nights a week. The kids not only
worked hard physically but also
mentally learning a new offense.
The coaches were apprehensive
about nine and ten year old kids
executing the varsity Wishbone
offense. The offense was led by
quarterback Justin Rohr, who ran
the wishbone like a seasoned
veteran. On the receiving end of
Justin's pitches were Joey
Schultheis and Nicholas Pombonyo
Attack of the
80-Foot Poles Results In
CEASE WORK ORDER
Although it is difficult to capture the eyesore that these newly
installed poles have created in a photograph, you can see how they
tower over the existing poles and if you look closely you will see the
cluster of 80 foot poles that were creeping their way towards the
downtown business district. Happily they will creep no more.
By Linda Mangano
All one has to do is take a
look down Railroad Avenue in
Bethpage to see that an attack of
sorts is underway. An attack of
80 foot poles which were
installed during the past week or
so. Theses poles, which are used
to transport electric current have
caused quite a controversy and
resulted in a barrage of
telephone calls as well as letters
to the Tribune office.
Legislator Ed Mangano was
extremely upset to learn that
LI PA began erecting 80 foot
poles along Railroad Ave which
were scheduled to run from
Hicksville, through Bethpage to
Farmingdale. In an effort to stop
the installation of 90 poles,
Legislator Ed Mangano
contacted Stipend so r John
Venditto and NY Senator Carl
Marcel lino to join him in calling
upon Richard Kessel, Chairman
of LI PA to seek an alternate less
intrusive plan. In response to
Legislator Mangano's request
Richard Kessel issued a stop
work order on Monday.
