GIVE THANKS This Thanksgiving
And Always
By Linda Mangano
As this paper is being printed many of you will just be recovering
from a Thanksgiving feast that no doubt has left you feeling tired, full
and 5 pounds heavier. And that's a good thing because Thanksgiving
is a time for eating or should I say overeating. But what I truly hope is
that long before the last plate is cleared from the table or the last bit of
stuffing has been eaten, you took the time to really be thankful. This
Thanksgiving is especially hard for our family, but in spite of the
sorrow, it is very important to remember all that there is to be thankful
for. And believe me you don't have to look much further than your
dining room table to find the greatest gifts you need to give thanks for.
Family and friends, good health and happiness. It is those blessings
that we very often neglect or take for granted because we assume that
they will always be there. However, we realize all too often that life is
short and that these blessing may not always be with us. That is why it
is so very important to let those that we love know how much they
mean to us. That is why it is so important to value our health and our
happiness long before we value our possessions.
Many of us have already learned this lesson. When you lose
someone special you realize that a gift you once cherished is now
gone. When you become sick or unhappy you realize just how
wonderful it was when you had your health and felt happiness. Yet
every day we continue our routines, very often not taking the time to
really show just how thankful we are. Well not anymore, at least not
for me. My plan this Thanksgiving and every day forward is to really
show my thanks and my appreciation for the people I love and the
blessings I cherish. And if it means that I have to say I love you a bit
more, pray a little harder or say thank you to the wonderful people
who touch my life each and every day then it is a chore I am eager and
only to happy to do. Most of us don 7 take the time to examine how
blessed we are in our lives until sadly a blessing is lost. And it is in
these time of sadness that very often we realize how special people are
as well as how caring. This past week we have been amazed at the
outpouring of love, support and kindness so many people have shown
our family. It is something I am so thankful for but also something that
I will never forget. And I think it has taught me a lesson I will never
forget. A true thanksgiving lesson that will stick with me forever. A
lesson about giving, a lesson about love and a lesson about being
thankful for people who make a difference in our lives.
So to everyone reading this message I hope your turkey was tender,
your stuffing was flavorful and most of all your heart was filled with
happiness and thanks for the blessings you hold dear. As for me, I
couldn't be more thankful. Thankful for my family, my friends, our
health and for this wonderful place I call home. I'm not so thankful,
however, for the five extra pounds but I'll save that for another story!
