VOL. 42 NO. 38 October 29-November 4,2004 FORTY CENTS
SUMMER IS BETTER
By Linda Mangano
This past weekend the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce held their
first ever Fall Harvest Festival and
it certainly is safe to say thai
Bethpage residents prefer the
festival during the summer. On top
of the fact that this event was
conflicting with a lot of other very
popular events such as
homecoming, the cold and windy
temperatures seemed to keep the
huge crowds that the Chamber was
expecting, away.
Nonetheless this first Fall
venture was far from a failure as
many residents did come out to take
part in the Festival fun. The
entertainment that the Chamber had
for both evenings was outstanding.
The music of EXCALIBER DJ was
fantastic. In spite of the cold, Vic
Macaluso had the crowd dancing all
day long. Vic has always been a
friend of the Bethpage community
and the Chamber of Commerce and
his dedication is so greatly
appreciated. As evening
approached, the Chamber and the
entire community paid tribute to the
memory of Walter Bucky Kuhl.
Walter was an employee of Bay
Fireworks and year after year
ensured that Bethpage was treated
to a five star fireworks display. His
creativity and commitment to the
community of Bethpage was so
greatly appreciated and will sorely
be missed. It was in his memory and
his honor that we dedicated this
year 's fireworks display. And let me
tell you, this by far, was the most
spectacular fire works display
Bethpage has ever seen. 'The skies
came alive with color and light as
festivalgoers were treated to true
"Disney-like "fireworks spectacular
and Walter's family was presented
with a beautiful commemorative
plaque and citation memorializing
Walter and his contributions to the
community. Bay Fireworks and their
fabulous crew should be applauded
and commended on the unbelievable
fireworks that they provided the
Chamber.
On Sunday, residents were
treated to variety of fun activities as
well as the talented tunes of RADIO
DAZE. If you have not heard this
wonderful Bethpage Band then you
are certainly missing out on a truly
talented bunch. All day long
residents commented on how
fabulous RADIO DAZE sounded
and the Chamber felt honored to
have them be apart of this event.
This hometown, Bethpage Band had
the crowd mesmerized with their
talented music and vocals. This is
the second time that RADIO DAZE
has performed at the Chamber
Festival and they are a truly
welcomed addition.
Residents came out in full force
to participate in the Chamber's
First Bethpage-Bake Off as well as
the Chamber Silent Auction and
Jack-O-Lantern Decorating
contests. They even had a few
entries in the crazy hat contest!
During both days Chamber
members came out supporting this
event with vendor booths,
fundraising booths and of course
food, food, food!
It seemed that there was a bit of
confusion, as residents assumed that
the festival would be an evening
event as it was during the summer.
Unfortunately, the date selection as
well as the time slot was not
something that the Chamber had
control over. This date and time slot
was made available to the Chamber
as a way to make up for the day,
which was cancelled during the
summer. Traditionally fall festivals
are daytime/ early e Verting events,
as the weather gets too cold for
festivalgoers to safely partake in the
rides and games. The Chamber
must extend a sincere thank you to
Newton & Sons Amusements for
AL WA YS pro viding thet,, vith
fabulous rides and games but most
