VFW Commander
Conducts First Meeting
Newly elected Commander Frank
Grossman of the Butehom Bros.
4987 Bethpage Post conducted his
primary meeting Tuesday, July 13,
2004.
Very pleased with three new
members that have joined and
attended his first meeting. The
Commander pictured below being
sworn in after his election at the
previous meeting. The Commander
was very pleased with the "POPPY"
program report by quartermaster
Vito DeFanis.
The local people were
exceptionally generous and all VFW
programs such as Veteran's
programs and community programs
can be achieved for the year. The
"Voice of Democracy" will go on this
year without interruption. This
program is a community program
entertained nine schools last year. It
is a National VFW Program. A theme
is given from National Headquarters
and the school children that enter
write an essay on the given subject.
The school children essays are
judged and graded. The winners
receive awards and money prizes
and a possibility of money for
college once on the New York State
level and National level by winning
multiple times. This program will be
intact this year like all other hospital,
parades, cemetery programs and all
other programs of the VFW due to
the generosity of our local people.
The Commander urges all the
Veterans of Foreign Wars that have
not joined our Post to do so. It is
very important that you come into
our ranks. You will be helping out
hospitalized Veterans and all the
programs of our "Order." We need
the help badly as we are not getting
any younger! The Commander
stated, "You will be joining a military
organization that is one hundred
and five years old as it was started in
1899 after the Spanish American
War." All Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Commander Frank Grossmann
would like you to give this some
thought and JOIN!
