Marc Khan
Memorial Volleyball Tourney
Raises $2,200 for Hicksville Youth
Mike Khan, WWE's Mick Foley, Ray Khan, former NY Jet
Marty Lyons, Nancy Khan, and Tom Bruno, Executive Director
of the Hicksville Youth Council at the Marc Khan Memorial
Basketball Tournament.
Marc Khan spent much of his life
helping others. Through charity
fundraisers and other community
service oriented events coordinated
through Bethpage High School,
where Marc was a student, he
volunteered much of his time toward
making life better for others. When
he wasn't helping others, he was
playing his two favorite sports:
volleyball and basketball.
Marc's family and friends have
coordinated a number of tributes in
his honor. The latest was the Marc
Khan Memorial Basketball
Tournament hosted by Hicksville
High School. Thirty-two teams of
three assembled to help raise
$2,200 for the Hicksville Boys and
Girls Club.
Marc's parents, Nancy and Ray,
and his brother Mike, awarded a
trophy and three seats to an
upcoming St. John's University Red
Storm basketball game to the
winning team of Steve Morici
(Bethpage), Kyle Rybek (Hicksville),
Kevin Nolan (Hicksville). A half-court
shot contest was also held. The
winner was Sami Hadi.
Celebrity guests present were
former New York Knicks basketball
player Cal Ramsey, World Wrestling
Entertainment star and author Mick
Foley, former New York Jets
defensive end Marty Lyons, and
Halftime Howie, the voice of Long
Island High School Sports. WBLI
Radio station played music, handed
out T-shirts and bumper stickers.
"This is a great tournament," said
Mr. Ramsey, who attended despite
having recent knee surgery.
"Different age and ethnic groups are
represented here, in memory of this
nice young man. They are raising
money for a good cause, and
playing the game they love. We are
all having a lot of fun."
"I didn't have the pleasure of
knowing Marc, but I have heard so
many great things about him,"
added Mr. Foley, who has become a
good friend of the Khan family, and
Bethpage High School, having
attended prior functions in memory
of Marc. "All of the events organized
in memory of Marc have been well
supported. They continue to grow in
oopularity; a tribute to Marc's
egacy."
Special thanks to Colleen
Morrissey of Morrissey car
dealerships of Rockville Centre, who
was the primary sponsor of the
event. Special thanks also to WBLI,
Hicksville High School, and the
Hicksville Board of Education, St.
John's University, the New York
Knicks, the Marty Lyons
Foundation, Port Jefferson Sporting
Goods, Bi-County Mailing, News 12

guests, spectators, participants, and
everyone else who helped make
this day a success.
Sorting Out All
This White Stuff
By Linda Mangano
Snow...snow...snow...and lots
of it. Tuesday's storm turned out
to be everything and more than
weather forecasters predicted. By
about 8pm on Tuesday evening
snow began to fall and by
morning most of us awoke to just
about 1 foot of white fluffy snow.
Bitter cold temperatures I am
movie watching and relaxing
were the activities of the day, oh
and of course. ..shoveling.
Residents armed with snow
shovels, regular shovels and even
high-powered snow blowers
began the big dig-out early
Wednesday morning. Most
residents felt as though the snow

residents can only do with a shovel, plow or crossed fingers and
prayers for warmer weather.
sure will also keep the old white
stuff around for quite some time.
It seems however that here in
the Town of Oyster Bay we were
ready, willing and able to battle
this blast of oV Mother Nature.
It was clear to see that they were
well prepared with the salting
and plowing of our roadways
which insure that most major
roads were pretty clear by
Wednesday morning. Area
schools were closed for the day
to the delight of most youngsters
except perhaps those who were
scheduled to take the NYS
Regents which will either be
rescheduled or taken in June.
Sleigh riding, snowball fights-,
was lighter than in previous
storms, which made for an easier
cleanup. The only problem is that
many areas of our community
had a thick layer of ice from the
previous storm, which was never
removed and coupled with this
new accumulation proved to be a
slippery and dangerous mess.
And so how do we sort out
this crazy, bone chilling winter.
Well, I know it is hard to believe
but spring is around the corner
(we hope) and so there will
eventually be an end to all this
winter weather. In the mean time
remember to stock up on the old
