Casual Friday For A Good Cause
It was Casual Friday in Bethpage
as faculty and staff throughout the
District wore denim apparel to show
their support for breast cancer
awareness and research.
Lee National Denim Day is an
annual fundraising event sponsored by
The Lee Company, with contributions
collected during the day being donated
to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation. The Lee Company also
sponsors the annual "Race for the
Cure," the largest series of 5K runs in
the United States.
Over the last four years, $16.5
million has been raised to fight breast
cancer as a result of Lee National
Denim Day.
Bethpage High School faculty and staff participated in Lee
National Denim Day in support of breast cancer awareness and
research.
Faculty and staff at JFK Middle School showed their support
for breast cancer awareness and research by participating in

Koch has been distinguished as a
Semifinalist in the National Merit
Scholarship Program.
Of students who take the
Preliminary Standard Aptitude
Test/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT),
approximately half of the top one-percent
becomes National Merit
Semifinalists. In February, Semifinalists
who meet academic and other criteria
will advance to finalist standing. Merit
Scholarship recipients will then be
Students in the 2003 National Merit
Scholarship Program. A total of 34,000
Commended Students across the
nation are recognized for their
exceptional academic promise.
Commended Students placed among
the top five percent of over one million
students who entered the 2003
competition by taking the 2001
PSAT/NMSQT.
A spokesperson for the National
Merit Scholarship Corporation
commented, "These scholastically
talented youth represent a valuable
chosen from among this nationally elite resource to our nation; it is important to
