BETHPAGE BOARD OF ED
BUDGET AND TRUSTEE VOTE
MAY21, 2002 12 NOON- 10PM
BETHPAGE HIGH SCHOOL
On May 21, 2002, or
Super Tuesday, as it has
been deemed, residents are
asked to come out and vote
for their school board
candidates as well as for
the school district's budget.
In order to vote residents
must be listed in the district
registration books or be
listed in the registration
books of the Nassau County
Board of Elections as a
currently registered voter.
Your name will be found on
the permanent registration
rolls provided that you have
voted in a school election
held or conducted during
the last four calendar years
prior to the year for which
such registrar is being
prepared.
Voting will take place on
May 21 from 12 noon until
10:00p.m. at the Bethpage
High School Auditorium.
By now most residents have
certainly received a
newsletter from the school
district explaining and
outlining the proposed
budget. This year the
proposed increase of the
2002-03 school budget
reflects an 8.1%
expenditure increase and a
projected 9.06 increase on
the Class I tax rate (a $5.34
increase per $100 of
assessed value in the
residential rate). Using an
average of $6600 of
assessed value for a home
in Bethpage, this would
equate to a $352.44
increase for the year for
that resident.
Candidates, Dennis
Brady, Mike Kelly and
Louis Orfan are seeking
election to the Bethpage
Board of Education. Mr.
Kelly, however, is running
unopposed.
Please remember to get
out and vote for this very
important election and
budget vote. It is every
resident's right and
obligation to exercise their
vote. Candidate biographies
appear inside this issue and
the Tribune will provide
full coverage and election
results next week.
