The Class B Champs Bethpage High School Golden Eagles are No. 1.
The Bethpage High School Golden Eagles boys basketball team are Nassau
County Class B Champions following a thrilling 61-57 comeback victory over
Roslyn High School before a crowd of over 2,500 spectators at the Clarke
Center at SUNY Old Westbury. Junior Glen Palilla once again starred for the
Golden Eagles, scoring 23 points in the championship game, including 10 in the
final quarter.
Bethpage trailed Roslyn by as many as 10 points early in the third quarter
following an early second-half Roslyn barrage. But the Eagles came storming
back early in the fourth with a 31-2 run, capped off by a 3 point play by senior
Shane O'Connell (20 points),-driving to the basket. That^gave Bethpage the lead
and the team held on for the victory. The Eagles also had playoff victories over
Lynbrook, Island Trees, and number 1 seeded Manhasset en route to the title.
Bethpage (19-3) will play two-time state champ Amityville in the Long Island
Southeast Regional Championship game this Saturday at Old Westbury,

Notice to Parents of Airing of 9/11 Video
The Bethpage School District would like to alert all parents of young
children about the airing of graphic video footage of the September 11
World Trade Center attack. The footage will be aired on CBS (Channel 2)
this Sunday, March 10, beginning at 9:00 p.m.
A French film crew that happened to be at the World Trade Center
making a firefighter training video taped the footage. After meeting with
school-based social workers and psychologists, the district recommends
that young children 10 years old and younger not be allowed to view this
program. For older students, it is suggested that parents sit with them
and process the information, during and after the program.
"Processing" involves answering questions factually, but briefly,
checking to be sure that children understand what they saw and are
okay with it, and then moving on to another activity or program that
would normally happen at that time. The reason for this is that children
who watch this program may possibly see people they knew, and that
they will be triggered to re-experience their feelings about the event.
The Mental Health Association of Nassau County will double-staff their
hotline that night. The number is 504-HELR If anyone has questions or
needs assistance that evening, parents and children should call this
number.

Raises $1000 for the Brian Hickey
'Strength of Heart' Memorial Fund
At halftime on Super Bowl Sunday the Hartigan Knights of Columbus

Harbor. The raffle raised $1000 with all proceeds going to the "Brian Hickey
'Strength of Heart Memorial Fund." The fund is being conducted by the
Bethpage Fire Dept. in memory of Capt. Brian Hickey of the FDNY and BFD.
Brian was lost in the September 11th attack on the WTC. For more
information on the fund contact the BFD or you can visit the website set up
