Greater L.I. Running Club Presents
$3000 Check To Bretton Bowl Fund
Gary Bretton (C) accepts the Running Clubs check from Joe
Sturgess (L) and Bob Sherman (R).
Among the highlights of the
January 16 meeting of the Greater
Long Island Running Club was the
presentation of a check in the
amount of $3,000 to the Bretton Bowl
Fund for the needy families of
Bethpage. The money represents a
major portion of the proceeds of the
Ho Ho Ho Holiday Run held on the
roads of Bethpage last December,
and was presented to Gary Bretton
by Ho Ho Ho Run Co-Directors Joe
Sturgess and Bob Sherman.
Gary thanked the audience of
about a hundred runners at the
Plainview-Old Bethpage Public
Library, and announced that he has
lost over 50 pounds and is getting
serious about his own running
program. Shortly after the meeting,
Gary became the newest member of
the Club. In 2000 he walked the
entire 3.1 Mile course of the Run,
with Bethpage Tribune publisher
Linda Mangano at his side. Gary
hopes to run the entire way on
December 15, 2001, and with his
toughness and determination, you
can bet that he will do it!
"Gary Bretton is a great guy and
an incredible booster for the
Bethpage community,'' noted Ho Ho
Ho Run Co-Director Joe Sturgess.
"The Bretton Bowl does wonderful
things for those local people who
need help the most, and we are
pleased to be able to help both Gary
and the rest of the caring people of
Bethpage get the job done."
