piace this Saturday, October 6.
Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m.
with the annual Homecoming Parade

Avenuei. The Girls Varsity Soccer
team will play on the main field

Football Team will play Division High
School. Kickoff begins at 2 p.m.

Bethpage Students Commended
in 2002 Merit Program
Bethpage High School Principal
Dr. Antoinette MacLeod announced
this week that liana Abrahams and
Mark Steiniger have been named
Commended Students in the 2002
National Merit Scholarship Program.
Dr MacLeod and Guidance
Chairperson Pam Puglisi presented
a Letter of Commendation from the
school and the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation to the
students.
liana and Mark earned this
distinction by placing in the top 5%
of approximately 1 million students
who took the Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test. Approximately
34,000 students throughout the
country earn Commended
distinction. Although they will not be
awarded Merit Scholarships, this
Commendation is held in very high
regard by all major colleges and
universities, and is noted during the
application process.

Memorial Mass Planned
Bishop William Murphy will offer
a Memorial Mass at Nassau
Coliseum, Uniondale, on
Wednesday, October 10, for all who
are missing oi died in New York City,
Washington and Pennsylvania as a
result of terrorist attacks on our
country The Mass, which will also be
offered foi the families and loved
ones of the victims, is open to all
Catholics.
Firefighters and police officers
are invited and urged to attend in
uniform Their heroic witness to their
fellow citizens will be recognized
during the service.
No tickets are required and
admission and parking are free.
At the Mass, the names of those
deceased or missing will be brought
before God and the assembly will
pray for unity as we move forward
with the hope of a renewed future
Those who are unable to travel
to the Coliseum that evening can
view the Mass live on Telecare, the
diocesan television station (Channel
25 on Cablevision of Woodbury).

Jobless By Sept. 11 Tragedy
If you lost your job, as a result of
the tragic September 11 terrorist
attack on New York City, you will
find a wealth of FREE resources and
assistance for job hunting at the two
job centers operated by the One
Stop Employment Centers of the
Oyster Bay Consortium, according to
Town Supervisor John Venditto
"Both employment centers,
located in Oyster Bay Town Hall
South, 977 Hicksville Road,
Massapeguu. and 1 70 Old Country
Road, Mineola, are ©quipped with
personal computers job banks fax
machines, telephones, work stations
books and magazines, videos and a
variety ol othei job search tooti"
Supervisor Venditlo stated I fur
tools are all user friendly so each
customer has an office away from
home in which to conduct a iob
search A professional staff is on
hand to lend whatever assistance is
needed.
"While we are particularly
interested in helping anyone left
jobless by the tragedy of September
11, these services are available to all
dislocated and low income workers,
Supervisor Venditto stressed "I
urge those who are in the job market
to take advantage of these excellent
resource facilities "

One Stop Employment Centers,
which are funded through the fedora
