Recycling has become a way
of life for most of us and that
certainly is a wonderful thing.
Most of us wash off our bottles
and cans and throw them into our
yellow "SORT" barrels to be
carted away. This year SPEC
(Students Putting an End to
Cancer), the Bethpage Chamber
of Commerce and Winthrop
Hospital have joined forced to
make your BOTTLES and
CANS really add up to
something VERY SPECIAL!
This year at the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce Summer
Festival SPEC will be collecting
CANS FOR CANCER! That s
right CANS you have in your
home or in your SORT barrel can
be turned into money which can
help children afflicted with cancer
who have to undergo treatment at
Winthrop Hospital.
In case you did not know SPEC
is a very active group in Bethpage
High School and was founded by
Brad Jerson. This organization has
been a vital force in our
community and has helped many
children and in our community in
many ways.
And it is very simple to make a
big difference with this CANS
FOR CANCER program. Simply,
start saving your cans NOW.. .and
bring them to the SPEC booth at
the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce Summer Festival. Your
cans will be counted and the
individual who brings in the most
cans will receive a SPECIAL
GRAND PRIZE which will be
announced shortly. Second and
third prizewinners will also receive
nri/es.
It is very easy to make a very
big difference in the lives of those
afflicted with cancer. We can and
should make a difference FIVE
CENTS at a time! So start saving
up and remember to bring them to
the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce Festival SPEC booth.
Let's prove that BETHPAGE has
the heart of GOLD I know it has.

Department Awards as well as the
Baseball and Boys' Varsity-
Basketball Most Valuable Player
