recent News 12 broadcast:
"Sometimes, the greatest athletes
don't command the biggest
headlines, but need to be recognized
for their achievements. The
Bethpage High School Physical
Fitness team can take well-deserved
bows. Their Girl's team won the
National Championships. Their Boy's
team came in 2nd in the Nation,
Coach of the Year, Mike Fenster and

knockout punch of all competition
They're the fittest of the fit. We at

accomplishments of this remarkable
group of athletes into perspective
Training year round and in relative
obscurity. Rarely, if ever, getting the
attention that they truly deserve The
young men and women of the
National Champion Bethpage
Physical Fitness team have, once
again, achieved the greatest honors
of their sport This was an absolutely
remarkable year tor both the
Women's and Men's teams at
Bethpage, as well as for their coach
Mike Fenster, who earned coach of
the year honors in his 13th and final
year.
Beginning with organizational
meetings and evening practices
early in the school year, the
members of the Fitness team set
goals and laid the groundwork for
this year's qualifying and National
championship competitions At the
core of this year's team, was a group
of determined veterans who were
focused on overcoming
disappointments which occurred at
last year's National Championships.
Although proud of their 2000
accomplishments, the team was
determined to improve upon the
ladies 2nd place and men's 4th place
National place finishes. These two
placewinning results were not what
the team had hoped for. The
veterans, as well as the new team
members of the 2001 team were
determined to return to National
Championship form Returning
individual National placewinners
such as Steven Bofill, Justin Hoi an,
Matt Leben, Corinne Owenbuiy and
Sarah Lowenthal, along with
returning veterans Matt
