YOUR OFFICIAL HOMETOWN M£WSVA?£R
VOL. 34 NO. 31 AUGUST 11-17, 2000 40 CENTS
EXTRA EXTRA
This weekend the usually car
filled parking lot adjacent to the
Long Island Rail road will be
transformed into a playground of
fun for the young and young at
heart. That's right...the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce Summer
Festival that is taking place on
August 11 and 12 from 6pm to
midnight. This labor of love has
turned into a tradition that the
Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
feels is a true tribute to Bethpage
and its residents. However, this
year the generosity of Bethpage
business owners and merchants
in sponsoring the festival has
been truly overwhelming. Special
thanks and sincere gratitude
must be given to the Festival's
2000 sponsors Cablevision, North
Fork Bank, Northrop Grumman,
Bank of New York, Briarcliffe
College, King Kullen, Bethpage
Federal Credit Union, B.K.
Sweeney ys, New Island Hospital
and Fleet Bank. These ten
Chamber members have been
instrumental in getting this festival
underway and helping to defray the
ever-mounting costs of putting on
this two day extravaganza and they
deserve our appreciation and
support.
This year the Chamber has tried
to hold the line on prices once
again offering a pay one-price
bracelet which will be for sale
both nights. Each bracelet is
good for the one-day admission
and cannot be used again on the
second night. Rain date for the
event is Sunday, August 13. The
chamber would also like to thank
their dedicated Board of
directors who work tirelessly on
this project. They are Gary
Bretton, Linda Mangano, Noel
Greco, Ed Mangano, Carole Ann
Catapano, John Ambrosio, Frank
Camerlengo, Sal Greco, Matt
Silver, Bill Nimmo and Dennis
Brady.
This year's festival promises
to be bigger and better than ever
before. As always Newton and
Sons Midway and Amusements
provides the Chamber with new
rides each year as well as
entertaining games and vendor
booths. This year they have
added more rides for your
enjoyment. There will be food for
every imaginable appetite as well
as a place for you to sit back and
rest your tired feet for a moment.
Entertainment as always is
provided by dedicated Bethpage
talent which includes Norma's
School of Dance, Last Chance
Blues Band, The Cynic's Society
and of course Music
Unlimited. The Chamber is said
to even have-etfew surprises up
their sleeves and who knows who
we '11 see entertaining the crowd.
Spectators may even have a
chance to grab a mike and sing
along. They also will be having
their very popular Treasure Hunt
game, which is run by Charlie
