Community Meeting On
Bond Issue Set For Jan. 18
On January 18th, the Bethpage
Board of Education will host a
special meeting for the community
to provide its perspectives on the
building project that was defeated
by voters in the December 15
referendum. The meeting will take
place at Bethpage High School, in
the auditorium, beginning at 7:30
p.m. All residents of the community
are invited. Before determining the
next-step to address current and
future facilities needs, the Board of
Education feels it is imperative to
receive input on the originally
proposed project and what the
community feels should be done in
the future.
Veterans of VFW Post 4987
Visit Students at JFK Middle School
Butehorn Brothers Post 4987, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United
States, is instituting an ambitious program which calls for visiting all the
schools in Bethpage, promoting the concepts of patriotism and Americanism,
and sharing some of their wartime experiences with the students. This
program came about as an offshoot of the VFW's Voice of Democracy
program, when the 23 participating students in Monica Morselli's class in
John F. Kennedy Middle School expressed an interest in learning more
about what it was like 1o be in a war."
Several members of Post 4987 visited the class one day, dressed in their
VFW parade uniforms, complete with the medals they earned during their
wartime service, and spent an enjoyable hour or so being interviewed by the
students.
In the year 2000, the Post hopes to expand this activity to include Charles
Campagne, Kramer Lane, Central Boulevard, LaSalle Regional, and John
K. West and Bethpage High schools.
