Norma Farrar Yard/Tag Sale
Localizedfundraising Efforts
Certainly, a garage sale seems like quite a lot of work. Lugging your
merchandise out in front of your home and ticketing each item with a
price tag seems like an endless job. Sure you can make yourself a bit of
money but is it worth it? Well, this tag sale is certainly worth it. The
Norma Farrar Tag/Yard Sale is an event that is truly worth the effort.
Last year a group of dedicated folks came together to not only pay
tribute to Norma Farrar (of Norma's School of Dance) but to also raise
money in her name to fight cancer the disease that took Norma's life.
Last year the first Annual Sale raised about $3500, which was donated
to the Cold Spring Harbor Research Center for Cancer. This year
however, something quite different is happening. Monies raised from
this year's event, which is being held on October 14, and 15 will be used
to benefit residents in School District 21. The NFCCF (Norma Farrar
Cancer Care Foundation) in conjunction with the Bretton Benefit Bowl
will use monies raised by this event to benefit those afflicted with cancer
right here in our own backyard. Obviously providing treatment is
something that would be way too costly, however, providing shopping
service, rides to doctors, companionship or other important services to
help ease the pain and treatment procedures of this dreaded disease is
exactly what money raised by this event will be used for. Block by block,
heart by heart a difference can be made and will be with your help.
Participating in this sale will benefit and help your own neighbors,
friends and perhaps even family members who are battling this disease.
This community fund is perhaps one of the first funds, which has been
established for cancer, which is completely localized. The money, which
is raised, will be used totally in the School District 21 (Bethpage, parts
ofPlainview, qparts of Hicksville) our community has proven time after
time that we are a community of dedicated and compassionate people
who are always willing to lend a hand. Well, now is the time to get out
there and lend a hand to so many who have been afflicted with cancer
and even to memorialize those who sadly have fallen to the disease. We
need you! Each and every one of you can make such an impact in your
own community by getting involved in this sale. All it takes is a
commitment from you to hold a tag sale at your home. The proceeds of
your sale are yours to keep (unless of course you decide to make a
further donating to this worthwhile cause). You simply register to
participate with a $12 registration fee for the two days. You do not
however have to participate both days. Just write on your form which
day or both that you plan on participating. We request that during your
sale you put out a donation can so that you can collect some change for
cancer. Maps will be sold beginning Sept. 25 with your home address
indicated on it so that shoppers can find your sale. Shoppers will have
the maps in plenty of time before the sale to highlight the areas that they
plan on heading out to. We also suggest that shoppers use a Hagstrom
Map to further help in mapping out there route. It is that simple. So
simple yet participating in this event can mean so much to so many.
Please mark your calendar and get involved. Your participation is
crucial to so many people in need of services and help infighting this
disease. Cancer can hit anyone at any time. No one is immune and that
is why this cause is so important. We have so manv people in our
