Michael Williams Awarded
For Winning Environment Contest
Salute To Veterans
At Eisenhower Park
Senator Kemp Hannon (R-6th S.D.) recently recognized Michael
Williams of Kramer Lane Elementary School for winhing the New York
State Senate's 9th Annual 2000 "l-ma-Green-nation" Celebration
contest. The program encourages students from across New York State
to use their imagination to develop ideas for solving New York State's
solid waste crisis, promoting recycling and waste reduction. Pictured,

Steve Williams, mom Melissa Williams, grandmother Roxanne Bellas

Italian American Night Celebrated
The public is invited to attend
the Salute to Veterans scheduled for
Saturday, August 12th at
Eisenhower Park in East Meadow,
announced Nassau County
Executive Thomas S. Gulotta.
A ceremony honoring the
Veterans will begin at 7:15 p.m.
Nassau County Executive Thomas
S. Gulotta will present proclamations
to United States Submarine, Korean
War and Vietnam Veterans.
Following the presentation of
proclamations, the County
Executive, assisted by Gary Gerth,
Director of the Nassau County
Veterans Service Agency, will
present the Distinguished Service to
Veterans Award to Gary Quinton, a
Persian Gulf Veteran; Morris Miller,
a Vietnam Veteran; Joseph Carco, a
Korean War Veteran; Joseph
Librizzi, a World War II Veteran and
Arlene S. Howard, Woman Veteran
of the Year.
After the ceremony, at 8:00 p.m.,
concertgoers are invited to enjoy the
renowned music of Bob Rotunda's
Stardusters 19-Piece Swing Big
Band. The Stardusters are
comprised of master interpreters of
original Swing-Era Music, dedicated
to preserving America's greatest
Swing-Era Big Band Classics. Jerry
Cardone is the quintessential
Sinatra interpreter and the female
vocalist is former "Annie" star,
Roseanne Kavanagh. Since 1974,
the Stardusters have thrilled concert
audiences and ballroom dancers
with the timeless swing music of
Artie Shaw,.Glen Miller, Harry
James, The Dorsey Brothers, Benny
Goodman and other greats from our
golden-era of music.
The International Nights Series
is presented by the Nassau County
Department of Recreation and Parks
under a generous grant from Canon
U.S.A., Inc. The 2000 Summer
Concert Series is sponsored by
American Ref-Fuel Company, Nikkon
Inc., William Penn Life Insurance
Company of New York, The Chase
Manhattan Bank, Fortunoff, Davis
Vision, HSBC Bank USA, Total

1100&740am. Several concerts are
being held in cooperation with the
Nassau County Office of Cultural
Development.
The Salute to Veterans is free
and begins at 8 p.m. at the Harry
Chapin Lakeside Theatre near
Parking Fields 6 and 6A. Special
accommodations are available for
persons with disabilities, including
reserved parking, accessible
restrooms, and a convenient
reserved location on the hill.
Assistive hearing devices will be
available free of charge for the
hearing impaired.
There is no formal seating at
Lakeside, so concertgoers should
bring folding chairs. If weather
conditions are doubtful, please call
(516) 572-0252 or 572-0253 after 6
p.m. for a recorded update on the
performance. The rain date for this
event is Saturday, August 5th.
Eisenhower Park is located in
East Meadow with entrances on
Hempstead Turnpike at East
Meadow Avenue, and at the
intersection of Stewart and Merrick
Avenues. For further information,
