School's Out But First,
A Word of Thanks
The end of the school year brings with it a variety of emotions and
feelings. First off, most of us are thrilled with the fact that the hurried
and frantic morning routine will come to an end. At last...sleeping past
6:00am, Many of us are also worried about how to keep the little ones
busy all summer without pulling out our hair. One thing everyone will
agree on, however, is the thanks and admiration that we have for the
dedicated teachers who enabled our children to make it through another
school year. And that, by no means, is an easy task. Teachers
today are facing many new obstacles and challenges. Curriculum
changes, new testing regulations and changes in the family structure are fhe Mid-Island girls also were all
all part of the ever changing role that teachers have today. Yet, there is first year Level 5 gymnasts. The girls
one thing that never changes in regards to the role that teachers play in
our society, and that is the importance of that role. Teachers each day
are molding our children and helping to ready them for their jutures. ;
They are a vital part of our future as they help educate our society one
child at a time. And no matter what grade they are teaching it is their
dedication, compassion and caring that will be remembered long after
the last page of the last workbook is completed. We must also thank the
dedicated administrators who keep our schools functioning as well as
the support staff which includes our school guidance counselors, psychologists,
nurses, monitors, cafeteria workers, secretarial staff as well
as custodial staff. As a team they all are able to make a difference in
our children. I would also be remiss if I did not mention a huge factor
in helping to get our children through another school year and that is
our dedicated parents. We in this community, are quite lucky to have so
many dedicated parents and grandparents who volunteer to help out
through Parent Teacher Associations., They all deserve a great deal of
thanks, as they too, help to shape our future one child at a time. All in
all, it truly is a partnership in educating our children. It is not an easy
job yet most would say it is truly rewarding...for teacher and parents
alike. So to all the teachers out there we wish you a wonderful summer
vacation. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the compassion,
dedication, commitment and caring you have shown our children
throughout the year. Each of you should take true pride in realizing
what it is that you accomplish each day those children walk into your
classrooms. To the entire support staff team... thank you for keeping
things going. To our dedicated parents we say enjoy the summer... sleep
late...forget about packing lunches, forget about term papers and
nagging them to finish their homework. Thank you all for realizing
how important it is to be apart of your children s education. No one
could do it without you. And to all the children...we say HAPPY
SUMMER.....SCHOOVS OUT...SUMMER'S HERE! To the graduating
class of 2000 we wish you every possible success. We hope that all
your dreams will become reality. On a totally personal note....Mrs.
Monaghan and Mrs. Shumsky, you both are everything a teacher
should be. Thank you. Now unpack the backpacks....unplug the alarm
clocks and enjoy the lazy hazy and sometimes crazy days of summer.

Let's Face It... We 're Pooped!
Everyone needs a little rest now and then. A little R and R is just what
we all need from time to time to re-energize ourselves. Well that is true
for the Bethpage Tribune as well. We will not be publishing a
newspaper next week. Normally we skip the last two weeks of
December but we decided to split that up with one summer week off
and one winter week off. We will be back however the following week
with all the news, event and information that our readers look forward
to receiving in their hometown newspaper. Oh and did I happen to
mention that our wonderful and speedy typist Lorraine Birnbach and
my crackerjack editorial assistant Gail Kelly will be taking the week
off as well. AND HOW COULD I EVER GET THROUGH AN
EDITION WITHOUT THEM!!!! We '11 be back in two weeks..,.see you
_ . then. Oh, please don't forget to fill out your subscription cards... you '11
Our first issue in July will feature the graduating class of2000...see you ^ receiving them this week!
