Cablevision Receives Prestigious
Industry Award

Cablevision Systems
Corporation (NYSE:CVC) is
recognized for outstanding
community service for The Long
Island Challenge, a series of -
academic quiz shows featuring
teams of high school students from
Nassau and Suffolk counties. The
Long Island Challenge received the
prestigious Gilbert Community
Service Award from the Cable
Television and Telecommunications
Association of New York.
Named for the late Peter Gilbert,
founder of Gilbert Media, the award
recognizes outstanding public
service programs produced by
member cable television companies
in New York State.
Cablevision is also nominated
for two Beacon Awards in the
categories of community relations
and education. The Beacon Awards
are presented by the Cable
Television Public Affairs Association
and honor excellence in public
affairs within the cable television
industry.
For outstanding achievement in
community relations, Cablevision is
nominated for Sun Smart, a series
aimed at educating Long Islanders
about the dangers of exposure to the
sun and the increased risk of
contracting skin cancer and
melanoma. Responding to the
untimely and tragic death to
melanoma of an employee,
Cablevision of Long Island
embarked on a widespread
community campaign to heighten
awareness about the dangers of skin
cancer.
The Long Island Challenge is
nominated for a Beacon Award in the
category of excellence in education.
The Beacon Awards will be
presented at the Cable Television
Public Affairs Association's annual
conference in San Antonio, Texas.

BRITTANY CEMETERY
At this cemetery, covering 28 acres of rolling farm country near the eastern
edge of Brittany, rest 4,410 of our Dead, most of whom gave their lives
in the Normandy and Brittany campaigns in 1944. Along the retaining wall
of the memorial terrace are inscribed the names of 498 of the Missing
whose resting place "is known only to God."
This is a picture of one of the many cemeteries in Europe that is the final
resting place of some of our Military.
It is that special time of year that we set aside one day at the end of the
month of May which is known Nationwide as MEMORIAL DAY.
This is a day that we pay special tribute to all the men & women of our
nation who gave their lives to defenp1 our country. It is a day that we
remember the NINETEEN YOUNG MEN FROM OUR TOWN WHO PAID
THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. The ^ethpage Memorial Day Committee has
been working since the beginning o|f the year, planning the special services
and parade for this day of tribute.
All organizations are invited to attend the next Memorial Day Meeting on
April 26 at the Bethpage Fire Housf Broadway at 7:30 PM.
We extend an invitation to all younq and old to decorate their bikes and
join this parade.
It is our day to remember our Veterans who gave so much so that we may
live.
Unfortunately parades cost money, |we are asking our town people for a
donation if possible to support the parade.
