Bethpage Adult Education
Teams Up With Cablevision
In an effort to increase
enrollment in the Bethpage School
District's Continuing Education
Program, and enhance the
educational partnership established
with Cablevision Systems
Corporation, an agreement has been
reached to offer adult education
courses to Cablevision employees
who work at their world headquarters
in Bethpage. As a result of this
arrangement, there will be no
additional cost to the district, but
rather, the potential for increased
revenues.
Paul lascvoli, Director of
Bethpage's Continuing Education
Program, reported that
accommodating additional students
would not be an issue. The
Cablevision employees will be
charged the reduced Bethpage
resident fee rate for tuition.
"This partnership is invaluable,"
said Assistant Superintendent for
Instruction Dr. Richard Marsh.
"Cablevision recently donated a
Lifetime Learning Computer Lab to
the District, for use by students,
teachers, community organizations,
and senior citizens. We look forward
to what we will accomplish as
partners in the future."
Legislator Mangano Looks
Towards Winter Safety
Winter weather can prove
dangerous to older Americans as the
cold temperatures of the season are
upon us. Of particular concern is
hypothermia (low body temperature)
which impacts vulnerable senior
citizens.
"The Nassau County
Department of Senior Citizen Affairs
offers several important programs
and services to our older Americans
during the winter season," said
Legislator Mangano (R-Bethpage).
"Residents in need of assistance
should contact the Department
directly for information on these
programs."

Senior Assistance for Fuel
Emergencies (SAFE)
A one-time emergency fuel
delivery is available to seniors who
run out of fuel and lack money to
obtain oil. SAFE is funded by the
Department of Senior Citizen Affairs
and administered by the Family and
Children's Association in
cooperation with the Nassau County
Police Department. SAFE is
available 7 days a week, 24 hours a
day during cold weather months
only. To inquire about SAFE, call
292-2600.

Running Club Presents Check
To Bretton Bowl Fund
Pictured here, Ho Ho Ho Run Director Ed Kovesdy presents the
$3000 check to Gary Bretton.
Among the highlights of the
January 18 meeting of the Greater
Long Island Running Club was the
presentation of a check in the
amount of $3,000 to Gary Bretton of
the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce. The $3,000, which is part
of the annual "Bretton Bowl" Fund,
will go to help needy local families
from the Bethpage area. The
meeting was held at the Bethpage
Public Library, with more than 150
Club members in attendance.
The $3,000 represents half the
proceeds of the 1999 Ho Ho Ho
Holiday Run that was held on the
roads of Bethpage on December 19.
(The remaining $3,000 was turned
over to the ASPIRE Program for the
rehabilitation of young amputees).
"We are extremely happy to be
able to donate $3,000 once again this
year to the Bretton Bowl Fund,"
observed Club President Mike
Polansky. "Gary does an incredible
job on behalf of the Bethpage
community, and we are thrilled to be
able to help his efforts in this
manner. I join with Ho Ho Ho Race
Director Ed Kovesdy in hoping that
we can continue to enjoy a great
relationship with our Bethpage
friends in the new Millennium!"
organized to earn the $15,000
necessary for the trip.
For those who would like to see
the Kickline in action and would like
to add their contribution for their trip,
they will be performing at halftime
for the New York Saints Lacrosse
game at Nassau Coliseum. Tickets
are being sold through the Kickline.
