YOUR OFFICIAL HOMITOWN NEWSFAPIR
VOL 34 NO. 10 MARCH 10-16,2000 40 CENTS
Golden Girls Compete
Successfully and
Bring Home Gold
St Patrick's Day 2000!
BETTER THAN EVER
What a day it was! Bright
sunshine, fair breezes, flags flying,
colorful bands in kilts, playing
marching music on their bagpipes,
and the Bethpage High School
Marching Band performing for the
crowds lining the streets watching
the parade.
Firemen from Bethpage and the
surrounding communities -
impressive in their dress uniforms -
were there to march in honor of "one
of their own," John Sullivan, the
Grand Marshal.
To the delight of the youngsters,
there were lots of trucks - fire trucks,
trucks from the Bethpage State Park
and Bethpage Water Department.
There were antique fire trucks, of
interest to the older folks, and '
antique cars that brought back
memories of our youth.
Teddy Roosevelt (aka James
Foote) greeted the crowds on
Stewart and Broadway with his
robust Hello.
The world-famous Rockettes
along with T-Spoon of the New York
Liberty Team brought some celebrity
to the event. They were followed by
Cablevision's ambassadors who
-distributed green and white yo-yos
to the children lining the parade

Basketball game.
Last year, the Bethpage High
School Varsity Golden Girls ended
the season as the Long Island
Kickline Association Kickline and
Pom Pom Champions. This year they
are working even harder to retain
that special title.
The Golden Girls are once again
showing that practice and teamwork
pay off. They have been competing
in both the L.I.K.A. competitions in
Uniondale High School and the
Universal Dance Association
competitions held at Nassau
Community College. So far, they are
bringing home the gold again and
again and again.
With the competitive season
almost over the Golden Girls have
their hardest work still ahead of
them. On March 3rd, the team leaves
for Disneyworld where they will
represent Bethpage in the Contest of
Champions. Immediately upon their
return, the team has also qualified to
compete in both the L.I.K.A.
Championships and U.D.A.
Championships.
So if you see a member of the
Golden Girls, remember to wish
them luck. Anyone interested in
attending either of the
Championships on March 12 or
March 26 can purchase tickets from
the Golden Girls by calling Bethpage
High School.
