Saluting A Man With A Heart of Qold....We Will Miss HAL RESNICK There are some people that you
meet that always have a smile on
their face. There are some people
you meet who are always optimistic
and look at life as a great big adventure.
Hal Resnick was one of
those people and sadly Bethpage
had to say good-bye to this dear
friend on May 7 when he passed
away from pancreatic cancer.
Hal Resnick was born in East
New York Brooklyn, enlisted in the
Army in 1945 and served in Panama
until 1947 when he became
an Army reservist. In 1951 he was
called to active duty in-the Korean
War and served until 1953. In 1960
he married his wife Benita and the
happy couple moved to Plainview
and stared a family. They raised two
sons Donald and Bennett and became
extremely active in their
community.
Hal was a little league coach, a
4-H leader, a cheerleader for so
many and later became a member
of the Bethpage Board of Education
for which he served on for an
astounding 24 years. Hal and his
wife Benita were also very active in
the Bethpage Jewish Center.
Although the accomplishments
of Hal Resnick would surely be able
to FILL the pages of this or any
other newspaper it is perhaps Ihe
integrity, the character, the dedication
and the devotion that this man
possessed that were his greatest attributes,
for almost as long as I can
remember if there was ANY sporting
event... Hal Resnick was there.
And...he was there not merely to
take up a seat, he was there as
cheerleader and. an inspiration to
his children, in thought, word and
deed. I say 'his' children because to
him they all were. The smile on his
face was the dead giveaway. Hal
was a dedicated family man always
wanting the best for his children and
openly displaying his love for his
lifelong companion Benita. He had
true pride for his family and that was
so wonderful to see. Hal and Benita
were truly a dynamic duo and when
Donald and Bennett completed the
family portrait they were a truly influential
and important Bethpage
family/Always involved, always concerned
and always dedicated to
their community and above all their
family.
In 1993 Hal suffered an aortic
stroke which left him unable to walk
and needing the assistance of a
wheel chair. While so many would
have been negatively affected by
this unfortunate medical condition it
seemed to energize Hal even more
so. He never ever let his inability to
walk interfere with his agenda or his
dedication to his community.
Several years ago at the Annual
Bretton's Benefit Bowl my family
and I pulled up- to the parking lot
and no sooner did Hal pull up next
to us. Hal had a wheelchair lift attached
to the roof of his car and my
children were fascinated with this
mechanism which raised the wheelchair
to the car roof and back down
for Hal to use. We walked out of the
car and my two boys said to Hal
"you must be like Superman with
that special car." Hal smiled his
great big typical smile and laughed
giving each of them a kiss and then
I told Hal that indeed they knew
him well. He will always be a Superman
to this communitv and we
will never forget his smile, his vigor
for life, his dedication to his family
and community and the difference
he made just by entering the room.
We love you Hal and we miss you.
To the Resnick family there are
no words that could express our sorrow.
There is no way we can express
our sadness or try to ease
your pain. Please, however, if you
can, take comfort in knowing what
this magical man meant to the
community in which he lived as well
as knowing that the angels now
have a new recruit to cheer them on
and inspire them much as he did for
us all during his extraordinary life.
God bless!
