SERVING BETHPAGE, ISLAND TREES, OLD BETHPAGE, PLAINVIEW, SEAFORD AND PLAINEDGE
VOL 41 NO. 33 August 15-28, 2003 FORTY CENTS
WONDERFUL EVEN IN THE RAIN
w eather forecasters
predicted bad weather all week
long and things looked pretty
grim after looking at their
forecasts for the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce's Annual
Summer Festival. But, believe it
or not, we made it. Friday
evening the skies looked
ominous. Black clouds
everywhere, but no rain for
Bethpage. In fact, it was really
pretty nice out! 3-Day Weekend,
Blue Collar and the Woody
Mack Band treated festival-goers
to fabulous entertainment. These
three unbelievably talented bands
played music suitable for every
age group and preference and
truly entertained the huge crowd
all evening long. As usual there
were plenty of rides and games
for the kids, compliments of
Newton and Sons Amusements.
Each year they provide safe and
fun rides as well as games for all
and if you were hungry well
there was food... .food... .and
more food! Many Chamber
members came down to sell
merchandise, distribute flyers
and information or merely to
meet residents.
Saturday, we were not as
lucky with the weather but the
spirit of Bethpage residents
shined through all the raindrops
and turned a pretty damp and wet
evening into a pretty great event,
Unfortunately due to the wet
pavement Norma's School of
Dance was unable to perform
(we'll have to have two shows
next year!!!!). We were however
thrilled with our new
DJ...EXCALIBUR! Excalibur
DJ had the crowd dancing all
night long and really entertained
everyone with fabulous
giveaways and unbelievable
music! In spite of the rain.. ."he
joint was jumpin"!
Our traditional 10:45
fireworks display had to be
moved to 9:30 pm due to weather
conditions but BAY
FIREWORKS put on a fabulous
5 star show that was better than
ever. The weather made for some
windy conditions and the
humidity certainly inhibited the
fabulous work of BAY
FIREWORKS but nonetheless
the skies came alive with
glorious color!
The very dedicated folks at
the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce make all this
possible. This two-day event
takes an enormous amount of
time to put together and it truly is
a labor of love. The icing on the
cake however is our sponsors.
Our generous corporate sponsors
are the prime reason why this
festival takes place each and
every year. Their generosity is so
much appreciated by the
Chamber as well as the entire
community of Bethpage. They
certainly are good neighbors.
This year we thank and salute
CUSTOM CAPITAL our
premiere fireworks sponsor,
Bethpage Federal Credit Union,
Fleet Bank, New Island Hospital.
Citibank, King Kullen, Northrop
Grumman, Bank of New York
and Newton and Sons
Amusements. These corporations
made this event possible. We
would also like to thank our
long-time friend, Cablevision for
providing us with gorgeous
backpacks to raffle off. Special
thanks goes out to the Bethpage
Health and Relaxation Center,
Unique Impressions, The
Bethpage Junior Firefighters and
the Anthony D'Amico
Scholarship Committee for
taking part in our festival raffle.
We also must thank the Bethpage
Fire Department, Eighth
Precinct, and Town of Oyster
Bay Clean up crew and Ken
McDermott for all their help and
support during this two-day
event.
Most of all we need to thank
all those who came out to be part
of Festival 2003! Your
enthusiasm for this community is
what makes us all so proud to be
part of Bethpage! Pictured on
this page and wrapped around to
our back page are memories of
FCs, I ?003. We hope you
enjo ^h*m as weli as
