Chamber President Dennis Brady, Councilman Len Symons, Nassau
County Legislator and Chamber Treasurer, Ed Mangano, Pastor
James Berry of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Chamber Vice President
Gary Bretton pose-with some of the talented members of the St.
Paul's Choir.
You better not pout, you better
not cry, you better not shout, we're
telling you why. Santa Claus just visited
our town! The girls and boys in
Bethpage, they had a jubilee. We
gathered in the center of town and we
lit our Christmas tree-Oh!
Oh is right! What a glorious event
it was, as the Bethpage Chamber
hosted their annual Tree Lighting
Ceremony on Dec. 1. This year's
event began with the music and caroling
of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Their glorious voices filled the night
air as the hundreds of spectators
were delighted with the St. Paul's
Dance Troupe who gracefully and
elegantly entertained the crowd. Pastor
James Berry of St. Paul's had, as
usual, inspirational words for the
crowd. Legislator Ed Mangano and
Town Councilman Len Symons both
addressed the crowd and wished all a
wonderful holiday. Then it was up to
Chamber President Dennis Brady and
Vice President Gary Bretton to start
the countdown for the big - flip of the
switch.
With the backwards countdown to
1 the crowd ooohhhed and aaahhhed
as the fabulous 35 plus foot tree was
lit. (Okay so we won't mention that
due to a minor electrical problem the
tree was lit... re-lit... lit... re-lit... lit...
etc. etc.).
Then just when you thought it
couldn't get any more festive Santa
arrived compliments'of the Bethpage
Fire Department and distributed
candy canes to the laddies. Children
were also entertained by a horse and
carriage ride around town and the
sounds of jingling bells could be
heard everywhere. Special thanks to
the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
on this spectacular event and also for
making Bethpage look so incredibly
festive. The Chamber also reminds
everyone to come out and participate
in their Annual Menorah Lighting
Ceremony on Dec. 13 at 6:30, next to
the Christmas Tree. They also remind
everyone to shop locally and also,
above all, have a wonderful holiday.
