EAGLES TAME WARRIORS
Number One Ranked Golden Eagles Defeat Wantagh 28-6
by Mike Florio
Last Saturday, the #1 Bethpage
Golden Eagles squared off against
#6 Wantagh Warriors in what was
built as the biggest game in Nassau
County this year. Both Bethpage
and Wantagh were undefeated (6-
0) at this point and this game would
decide the Conference III championship.
After a slow first half the
Golden Eagles pulled away and
came out with a 28-6 victory over
Wantagh.
Wantagh was one of the best
teams Bethpage would face and
our key task would be to stop running
back Kyle Edwards who had
averaged over 100 yards in all his
games, but today he could only
muster 12 yards against the Golden
Eagle defense. Anyone who
touched the ball was met by a
plethora of Bethpage defenders
within seconds. Once again it was
an outstanding performance by the
Bethpage defense.
The Bethpage offense, which
this week returned senior quarterback
Steve McTigue, dominated
the Warrior defense. Bethpage's
offense line, which this week was
named the best in Nassau County,
cleared plenty of room for it's running
backs. Fullback Chris Cercy
was the work horse carrying 22
times for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Brian Solliday scored on a
24-yard run and Henry Suhr had
two touchdowns from 5 and 1
yards.
Bethpage just plowed through
the Wantagh defensive front in the
second half. Most of the credit
goes to the front five, Brett Greco,
Mike Murphy, Ed Kim, Adam Ra-zov,
and Joe Seiter who really
opened it up for the Bethpage
backs.
Next week Bethpage concludes
it's regular season schedule at
home when it faces Great Neck
North. With a win Bethpage will finish
undefeated and finish 1st in
Conference III. Come out and support
the team in it's final home
game.
