PENNY PINCHING PAYS OFF!
Q
COURTESY OF
BETHPAGE CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE
i
RESIDENTS
Spare change...we all have i t,
yet we very rarely think of just now
much our spare change can add
up to. Well, here in Bethpage, your
spare change added up to big
numbers during the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce's First
Annual Penny Drive. The
fundraiser, which was
spearheaded by the Go-Fers just
one year ago, has come to a close
and the results were remarkable.
Your change...your pennies
totaled 227,913 and that amounts
to over $2000 which was raised in
the fund drive and which will be
used in a variety of ways for the
community.
First, the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce has purchased 4 signs
which are depicted above and
which will be placed in four
strategic locations welcoming
people to this fine community. Our
signs will resemble those that can
be seen when driving into
Farmingdale. They will be wood
carved signs on white posts with
gold toppers on the posts. The
Chamber is quite excited about
these signs and will actually be
receiving them this Friday.
So you see, your spare change
has meant a great deal to this
community and when we all pass
those Welcome signs we should
all take pride in knowing that WE
as a community pooled together
to make a difference.
First, Pat Falco and Michelle
Skiber must be thanked for
spearheading and maintaining this
venture. The following also
contributed greatly to the Penny
Drive's success. They are: Greco,
Bros. Fuel Corp., Lemon Tree, The
Bridal Garden, Jacques Exclusive
Caterers, D's D-Lights, Met Life,
People, Bretton's Deli, Page Deli,
J.V. Electric, Bethpage Fire
Department, High Seas Fishery,
Bethpage Bouquet, Emil's Garden
Center, The Grapevine, Bethpage
Tool & Hardware, Carvel #583, The
Bethpage Agency, Tomlin Lighting,
Bethpage Wines & Liquor,
Bethpage Post Office, The
Bethpage Tribune, Ralph Rotten's
Nut Pound, Hart-Bymor, Dante's
Pizza, CimineHi's Pizza,
Photonews L j . Corp., Professional
Choice Printing, Pip Printing,
Century 21 Metro, Broadway
Video, B.K. Sweeney's, Pudgies
Chicken, TCBY, One-Stop
Laundry, T-N-T Beverage,
Michelino's Pizza, Nana's Coffee
Shop, The Bethpage Rotary Club,
JFK Middle School, Earthbound
Teachers, Children & Staff, Mrs.
McKinley, Daisy Troop #3445, and
so many other loyal penny-toting
residents.
Special thanks should also be
given to the Bank of New York on
Broadway in Bethpage. Without
them, the Chamber Penny Drive
would not have been the huge
success that it was. With each
deposit, the employees at the
Bank of New York HAND
COUNTED all of the pennies and
change. What a task!.
So to the residents of Bethpage
may we all raise our heads high to
be known as a true PENNY
PINCHING TOWN....We all did it
together!
Saying Goodbye Isn 't Easy
Saying good-bye to Mark Bretton and his family was not an easy
task, but hundreds of residents came out to B.K. Sweeney's to
toast the Bretton's on their new adventure in Florida. Ed
Mangano, County Legislator and close friend of Mark's presented
him with a County citation for his many years of service to the
community as well as to commemorate a quarter of a century as
owner of Bretton's Deli. Carol Bretton took hundreds of pictures
to remember everyone and in fact had all of their close friends
autograph a Bretton's Deli shirt for Mark.
If you've ever eaten an egg
sandwich in Bethpage, chances
are you've tried one of Mark
Bretton's specialties. Most
residents of the community of
Bethpage know the
Bretton family and everybody
knows "Whitey', a nickname for
Mark Bretton, who is a thirty
