VOL. 30 NO. 24 June 21-27,1996 40 CENTS GRAND SLAM
FOR BETHPAGE ROTARY CLUB
Bethpage can attribute the July 15 Yankee Game success to two factors. The first being that it was Bethpage's
day to shine in the Bronx and the second being that it was Richard Furrey's lucky blue and white Hawaiian shirt
which always guarantees good weather.
The sixth annual Bethpage Day at Yankee Stadium was sponsored by the Bethpage Rotary Club and each year has
had Rich Furrey as it's "starting line-up" leader. This year, the event attracted 259 people who boarded the 6
charter buses to cheer on their favorite Bronx Bombers and, of course, their town, BETHPAGE.
The event each year is used as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club which in turn helps to sponsor local scholarships
as well as programs for the Gift of Life which helps children receive life through necessary heart surgeries. The
event this year raised over $2000 for the Rotary Club and was deemed highly successful as well as entertaining by
all in attendance.
After arriving back home, Bethpage baseball fans gathered at the Community Park for a B-B-Q to complete an all
around Grand Slam day of fun for all.
Congratulations to the entire Bethpage Rotary Club, as well as Rich Furrey and his wife Jeri, who helped to
organize and run this traditional day of baseball fun for Bethpage. Great Job Guys!! It was a real "HIT!"
