Honor Bethpage FD
On March 7,1995 Lieutenant Raymond F. Schiebel of F.D.N.Y.'s Engine
Company 221 died in the line of duty while fighting a blaze in Brooklyn.
When it was announced that Lt. Schiebel's funeral would be held in
his home town of Bethpage, Long Island, the local volunteer fire
department sprang into action. Whatever the Bethpage fire department
sprang into action. Whatever the Bethpage Fire Department could do
to assist Lt. Schiebel's family and fellow firefighters would be done.
The facilities of the Bethpage fire headquarters building became the
base of operations for the funeral. It is estimated that 10,000 firefighters
lined the streets of Bethpage as the motorcade drove by.
On October 2, 1995, a uniformed contingent of New York City
firefighters from Engine 221 and Ladder 104 attended the regular
monthly meeting of the Bethpage F.D. Captain Marty Helmke (E-221)
and Lieutenant Kevin Cassidy (L-104) presented plaques and firehouse
mementos to Bethpage Chief Anthony Mancini and Commissionerr
Brian Hickey as an expression of gratitude.

BETHPAGE HOUSE FIRE
According to the elderly occu-.
pants, candles burning in a second
floor bedroom were the cause of
an afternoon house fire at 459
Boundary Ave., Bethpage on
November 13. Three occupants
were transported to Mid Island
Hospital by Bethpage Fire Department
and Nassau County police
ambulances.
At 15:45 hours Nassau Firecom
notified Bethpage fire dispatcher
Jack Neister about the blaze and
the alarm was sounded. Engine
9055 and Medic car 9066 arrived
within four minutes. Heavy smoke
and flame were coming out of the
second floor bedroom of the two
story wood frame dwelling. The
distraught occupants were at the
next door neighbor's house await-
