Road Runners Police Crisis Fund
Presents $2000 Check To Donna Wuerz
Pictured here presenting the check to Donna Wuerz are (L to R) Kevin
Block of the 5th Precinct, Ira Eskow, and Gary Stevens of Police
Appreciation Run sponsor Smith Barney.
The first payment out of the
"Police Crisis Fund" of the
Plainview-Old Bethpage Road
Runners Club was made at the
Club's February 21 meeting.
The Fund was established out
of the proceeds of the annual Long
Island Police Appreciation 5
Kilometer Run to help police
officers and their families in time
of emergency. Fortunately this
was the first time in four years it
has become necessary to put the
Fund to use.
Officer Kevin Wuerz of the 5th
Precinct of the Nassau County
Police Department died at a very
young age late last year, leaving
behind his pregnant wife Donna.
To make things worse, Kevin had
not been in the Department long
enough to have vested survivor's
benefits, so Donna needs lots of
help.
At the Club's February meeting,
POBRRC Vice President Ira
Eskow presented a $2000 check to
Donna on behalf of the Crisis
Fund. Although the original
thought had been to do it a bit more
quietly, Donna wanted to come
down to the meeting with Kevin's
friend Officer Kevin Block and
accept the check publicly — so her
wishes were certainly acceded to
Additional individual contributions
to help this young mother-to-
be in her time of need will be
gratefully accepted. Contact
POBRRC Vice President Ira
Eskow at (516) 921-0004.
