MAZZARA PRESENTS CITATION
TO LONDON SOLDIERS
FROM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Flight Sgt. Ian Mc Roberts, a
member of England's World War
II Commemoration team receiving
a proclamation from the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce. The Proclamation
was presented at the
Veterans Center in Hyde Park,
London by Buddy Mazzara of
Bethpage on the occasion of the
50th Anniversary of V E Day.
Buddy and Gene Mazzara traveled
to London to celebrate with
the British. Buddy had been at
Hyde Park on May 8, 1945 when
Winston Churchill announced
Germany's surrender. The three
day celebration at Hyde Park and
Buckingham Castle was on American
Television, so many of you
may have seen it first hand.
Sgt. Mc Roberts was instrumental
in arranging tickets to the major
activities. The Mazzara's also
received complimentary passes
for buses and the underground
(subway) as well as telephone
cards.
Their son, Bob, spent much time
with them as he is a resident of
London.
For those Servicemen who were
stationed in England during World
War II, it may jar a memory to say
that Dame Vera Lynn was the high
light of the entertainment, singing
the songs she was famous for.
