poster child for this year's
Star-athon airing on WWOR-TV,
channel 9 on Sunday, January 22
from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to benefit
the United Cerebral Palsy Association
of Nassau County, Inc.
(UCP Nassau).
Hosts Florence Henderson,
John Ritter, Dennis James and
Henry Winkler will be joined by
many celebrities as the show
sparkles with live entertainment
from coast to coast.
The poster child is a student in
The Children's Learning Center, a
divison of UCP Nassau, serving
over 200 children with a wide
range of mild to severe disabilities.
The agency in Roosevelt has an
international reputation for outstanding
programs serving over-
1,600 children and adults.
UCP Nassau is one of the country's
leading facilities in treatment
and rehabilitation with comprehensive
on-site medical, therapy
and social services available to the
community through its Fortunoff
Treatment and Rehabilitation
Center, and an augmentative communication
laboratory, toy lending
library, plus the Nassau Applied
Technology Resource Center.

VFW Butehorn Post 4987

VFW Butehorn Post 4987 of
Bethpage had its holiday season
in full stride. On Nov. 8, Ladies
Night, where the wives of the Post
members come to a catered
dinner, was held.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9th, at the
request of the Grace Day School
in Massapequa the Butehorn Post
members brought memorabilia
from their wars and displayed
them and the children viewed the
displayed articles and questioned
the Veterans about them. One of
the items about four pictures
showing the testing of the atomic
bomb on Bikini Island, brought by
veteran Navyman, Gordon Rogers.
Another display was a map
from one of our downed fighters
escape kit which was printed on
nylon so it would not be affected
by wetness. There were many
medals shown and other interesting
articles too numerous to mention.
One of the noticeable qualities
these children had was red,
white and blue intermingled with
their blood. They sang our
National Anthem and pledged
allegiance to the flag with such
feeling, it made hardened veterans

Joan Poppe of the American Legion Auxilliary Unit 86 of Bethpage
was presented with a Citizen of the Year Award and bouquet from
Quartermaster Vito DeFanis of the VFW Butehorn Post 4987.
