VOL. 27 NO. 50 DECEMBER 16-22, 1994 25 CENTS
THEY DID IT AGAIN!
Bretton's Benefit Bowl Raises Close to $25,000 Again This Year For The Needy
What takes place every
December, usually gets snowed or
rained on and yet helps more
people than any other event in
Bethpage? You got it! The Bret-tons
Annual Charity Football
game which was held last Sunday
and once again has approached
the $25,000 mark in collected
funds for Bethpage less fortunate
and needy families.
This year the Bretton Bombers
were shut out by the Central Park
Inn Keg Killers with a score of 20-
0 but in this game the true winners
are EVERYONE! What this seventh
Annual Charity event does each
year is immeasurable. The money
raised goes directly to families
right here in this community...Our
community provides them with a
variety of things. Perhaps a gift for
an unfortunate child, money to
keep feed a family or pay for heat
during these cold months. This
game is all about love.
And let me tell you that this event
is truly a labor of love for game
founders Gary and Mark Bretton
who donate so much blood, sweat
and tears to make it a success. The
players on both teams should take
pride in knowing that the game
they have just taken part in will
truly brighten the lives of so
many....and that's a real
TOUCHDOWN.
This year the game was proud
to have John Amirante of New
York Rangers fame sing the
National Anthem and his rendition
was inspirational. His magical
voice coupled with the huge American
Flag which was flown compliments
of the Bethpage Fire
Department added so much to this
Bethpage tradition.
Estimates thus far indicate that
once again this charity event will
7
That's right, Gary...this game is number one although the CPI Keg Killers pictured charging
for the ball above were unstoppable. The final scoring CPI Keg Killers 20, Breton's Deli O.
Congratulations to CPI on their impressive win although every one in Bethpage scored a
touchdown with this game.
raise over $25,000 but "tell your
friends" that you have until Jan.
15 to make a donation. Also this
year you have an opportunity to
be a part of the New York Jets
Collectibles Raffle. Only 400
tickets will be sold and winners will
be drawn on Jan. 15 (See page
...for more on raffle)
I must personally congratulate
everyone involved in this
game...Gary, Mark, their families,
the players, the spectators, all
contributors and any and everyone
who cares enough to care about
others this holiday. When Bethpage
should be so proud to host
a game that makes a difference
and helps lives. This is a great
game...a great town and a great
outcome. Remember, however
there is still time to give and be
a part of this game...for if you
do...you'll truly understand the
meaning of this season.
The Bethpage Fire Department
raised a huge American flag as
John Amirante of the Ranger sung
a heart wrenching rendition of the
Star Spangled Banner.
Troy Gorman, quarterback of the
Championship Bethpage Golden
Eagles before he tossed out the
game ball.
