BETHPAGE HIGH SCHOOL
FOOTBALL DEJA VU'
The Bethpage H.S. Defensive Unit—Responsible for 2 shutouts in a
row — 44-0 over Westbury and 36-0 over New Hyde Park.
Kneeling L-R — Mike Miale, Bobby Young, Peter Marketos, Keith
Abboud, and Tommy Meyer. Standing L-R John Roden, Dave Kelly,
Sean Severin, Robby Cosicia, Eric Pechenko, Charlie Omage and Scott
Renneisen. See Page 5 for Offense
You know that feeling. Gee! this
seems very familiar. I'd almost
swear that I've been here before
and seen this before.
Well, the Bethpage H.S. football
team is making us have those
same feelings.
The uniforms look the same.
Some of the faces are the same.
The high school field is the same,
and the scores of the games are.
even looking the same. And naturally,
the kids hit like Bethpage
players.
The truth is though that things
are very different. Last years team
was loaded with seniors. This year
we are even a couple of talented
sophmores; Brandon Testa, Brian
Soliday, and Adam Razov. The
biggest difference however, is that
the teams we are playing are
different.
Last year Bethpage was in Conf
IV because of our drop in enrollment.
This year we are back in
Conf III where we had been for
years. These are the teams that
have been our classic rivals. As
Brian Herbert said last year, "It's
weird not playing Lynbook and
New Hyde Park."
Well, its not weird anymore, and
the team knows how it feels to play
New Hyde Park. They defeated
them Saturday 36 to 0 and the
feeling was great.
That feeling of Deja Vu continues
if you look at the standings
of last years team and this years.
They were both 4 and 0 and both
just had shutouts over last years
conference champion. Last year
we beat Malvern 42 to 0.
Our points scored against the
four teams totaled 169 last year
and are 144 this year. The points
scored against us last year at this
point were 6 and this year 9.
Hopefully, this feeling of deja vu
will continue right up to and
through the championship game.
In the meantime we play Seaford
this Saturday at Seaford. So lets
keep the feeling going, and continue
building the legend of Bethpage
football.
Congratulations to both the
coaches and the boys on the great
job they continue to do.
