CEMETERY TARGET
OF VANDALISM
It was brought to the attention
of the Bethpage Tribune that the
cemetery, known as the Stymus
Cemetery located near Norcross
and Revere Avenues was recently
desecrated. We took a trip down
the block and it was heartbreaking
to see the headstones of so many
deceased people turned over and
broken into pieces. Buddy Maz-zara
thought that a good idea
might be to contact the Boy
Scouts in Bethpage and see if
perhaps they could refurbish the
cemetery. As we go to press, Mr.
Phil Lembo, Scoutmaster, has
been contacted and we are awaiting
notification as to whether or
not they will take on this project.
I can't understand why anyone
would deliberately vandalize a
grave. Each headstone marks a
person's resting place..a sacred
place to which people come to
remember their loved ones. I hope
whoever vandalized this cemetery
realizes what they have done. The
Tribune will keep you informed of
the clean-up effort.
JULY 19 HEARING SET ON SPECIAL
USE FOR GRUMMAN PROPERTY
A request for a special use
permit on the Grumman property
will be the subject of a Tuesday,
July 19, public hearing by the
Oyster Bay Town Board, according
to Town Councilman Leonard
Kunzig.
"The applicant, Grumman Aerospace
Corporation, a subsidiary of
Northrop Grumman, is seeking a
special use permit to lease an
existing office building for general
office use unrelated to its operations,"
Councilman kunzig
[explained. "The building,known
as Building 30, is located on
Stewart Avenue."
The Councilman went on to
say,"When the Town was con1
tacted by Grumman that a large
insurance company was interested
in one of its buildings, it was
at first thought we might not be
able to meet the company's deadline
for moving in. I contacted the
Department of Planning and
Development, which has existing
information on the building such
as layout,parking requirement and
the like. I also spoke with the other
Town departments and agencies
involved about the importance of
this application and received assurances
that they would expedite
matters under their jurisdiction.
"When a company bringing 1600
jobs to the Town...four to five
hundred of them newly
created...the Town has an obligation
to fast-track an application,"
Councilman Kunzig asserted. "It
shows that we are sincere in
wanting to help redefine the
Grumman property and that we
will do everything in our power to
insure that the Bethpage community
does not suffer loss of tax
revenues because of the diminished
presence of Grumman."
The meeting will be held in the
hearing room of Town Hall East,
Audrey Avenue,Oyster Bay,
beginning at 10 a.m.
BETHPAGE FLAG-FILLED
THANKS TO CENTURY 21
Flags, and lots of them, have been
cropping up all over Bethpage
compliments of Century 21 Metro
Realty. That's right, over 10,000
flags will be distributed between
now and July 4th as a way to
celebrate Independence Day.
This project was the brainstorm
of Century 21 Metro Realty owner/
brokers Carole Ann Catapano and
Teri Catapano Black who began
the project last year and have
nearly tripled the amount of flags
that they intend on distributing. In
fact last year the two Bethpage
residents were honored by the
American legion for their dedication
to the town and for their
Americanism.
It really is a wonderful sight
to see so many flags throughout
this town. The project is one
that not only pays tribute to the
flag, but also to the men and
women who bravely have stood
behind it...our Veterans.
Congratulations to the entire
staff over at Century 21 Metro. And
to everyone we wish you a happy
and safe Fourth of July.
