VOL. 27 NO. 49 DECEMBER 9-15, 1994 25 CENTS
COUNCILMAN KUNZIG
BETHPAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S
MAN OF THE YEAR
At the last monthly meeting of
the Board of Directors of the
Bethpage Chamber of Commerce
the Board announced that they
have selected Councilman Leonard
Kunzig to be there 1994 Man
of the Year. The Chamber selects
a specific individual for their
achievements in promoting commerce
in Bethpage.
Councilman Kunzig has been a
long time supporter of Bethpage
businesses and local merchants.
In fact this year he is responsible
for bringing the Robert Plan
Agency and Sleepy's to Bethpage,
two large businesses which will
bring tax revenue to the
community.
And while it is very important to
encourage business to come to
Bethpage it is equally important to
bring residents to the town and
keep residents here, which is
exactly what Kunzig's S2 Golden
Age Zone will do. The new Golden
Age Zone will bring affordable
housing to seniors which will allow
them to remain right here in
Bethpage as opposed to moving
down South. i \ y ft
Kunzig is also very involved with
the Northrop/Grumman Corporation
as to future use of unoccupied
buildings and vacant land as well
as the clean up and pollution
remediation of portions of the
property.
Chamber of Commerce President
Dennis Brady said that the
Chamber unanimously chose Len
Kunzig because he has always
been a friend to the community of
Bethpage. "Without the help of
Lenny I doubt the Chamber would
have ever been able to get the first
Annual Summer Festival off the
ground. He is always there for the
Chamber and for Bethpage which
is why our selection honoring him
as Man of the Year was so easy.
On December 19, Councilman
Kunzig will be honored at the
Chamber's Holiday Party at No
Bananas on Hicksville Road in
Bethpage. Tickets are $25 per
person and include a full buffet
dinner as well as dancing and
holiday cheer. For more information
contact the Chamber at 433-
0010.
A GIFT FROM US
TO BETHPAGE
Dear Friends,
You may be asking yourself why did I receive this newspaper, this
week, in my mailbox. Then again you may have come to expect its
arrival each week. In either case, this is a special issue of the Bethpage
Tribune... one that is given to every resident in Bethpage along with
our subscribers and friends in surrounding communities. A gift to help
you get to know us.
You might ask, too, why we have this "saturation mailing and what
purpose does it serve. Well let me tell you."
It is my belief that when you receive and read this newspaper vou
will realize it has become a vital part of this community. Long time
friends of the Tribune have come to look forward to our What & Where
Section, School News, Mail Call, Special Features and all our local
advertisers; We at the Tribune try to publicize what goes on in this
town. From a victorious Football team (way to go Eagles) to a residents
25th Anniversary, your news is important to us. We Say 'Happy
Birthday,' 'Welcome Home,"You have our Sympathy' and so much more
in the pages of this newspaper.
We highlight School Board News, the Political Scene in Bethpage,
Local events, Chamber of Commerce news, Rotary Club activities,
Central Civic Association updates, Central Park Historical Society
meetings, Lion's Club update, Community Council happenings. PTA
and School accomplishments, Women's Club projects, Knights of
Columbus, VFW and American Legion events and so so much more,
Why? Because the Bethpage Tribune is a mirror of this community.
And while editorial views may not match your own...we love to hear
your comments and viewpoints. Sure at times we are controversial...we
even at times ruffle some feathers but that is what a newspaper is
all about. If readers take the time to read our pages or even write
in to voice their opinions, then we are doing our job and I believe
that is the case.
Having lived in this town all my life (I hate to admit that that means
over 30 years...Yuk!), I truly and deeply care for it and that loyalty
and devotion I hope is echoed in the pages of this publication.
So to our old dear and special long time readers I thank you for
your support and dedication to this newspaper. You are the back bones
of this community and this publication. To our loyal advertisers I say
a heartfelt thank you as your support affords us all the wherewithal
to publish these pages each week. And to our first time readers I invite
you to sit back and enjoy a true hometown newspaper. We at the
Tribune hope we will become a weekly guest in your home. Bless
you all this holiday Season and thank you again.
