Bethpage notary ciuD gave a Holiday party at Holiday Manor to
1,000 children and their foster parents. The event was co-sponsored
by the Town of Oyster Bay.

A TAXING SITUATION: Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes

checks over bags of mail containing 1975 general tax bills. Due to late
adoption of the Nassau County budget, the bills were not sent out
until January 10. Residents have until February 10 to pay their bills
without a penalty. After February 10, all payments must be returned
for the imposition of a penalty amounting to one percent per month
from January 1,1975. Residents may send or bring their payments to
the Tax Office, Town Hall, Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, New York
11771.

Taxes Solomon Newborn
reminded residents who are
eligible for a senior citizen
property tax exemption that they
must file for the exemption every
year and should submit their
applications immediately with
the Nassau County Board of
Assessors.
Newborn explained that New
York State authorizes local
municipalities such as Oyster
Bay Town and school districts to
grant a 50 percent reduction in
real property taxes to seniors. He
stated that in order to qualify for
the exemption, a senior must be
at least 65 years of age, have
owned the property for a
minimum of two years, maintain
the property as their legal
residence and use it exclusively
for residential purposes, have no
children attending public school
and have a combined income of
all owners of $6,500 or less, in­cluding
pensions and social
security. The exemption must be
renewed each year.
"Many of our seniors meet the
qualifications for property tax
exemption," Newborn com­mented,
"and I am eager to see
that every older home owner who
is eligible takes advantage of this
special tax reduction."
Senior citizens who currently
have a tax exemption will
automatically receive a renewal
form in the mail. New applicants
can obtain their forms by writing
the Nassau County Board of
Assessors, 240 Old Country Road,
Mineola, N.Y. 11501, or phoning
535-2377.
The deadline for filing is May 1,
1975 to receive exemptions in the
1976 county and town tax roll and
the 1975-6 school tax roll.
Jim Jensen To Appear At Festival
Honoring Noted Publisher
On Sunday, January 19th, at 3
P.M. in the C.W. Post Dome
Auditorium, CBS-TV newscaster
Jim Jensen will appear as
narrator in a special presentation
of a riiusico-dramatic work
honoring the late Max Winkler,
founder of the Belwin-Mills
publishing empire.
The presentation, written by
Alfred Reed for chorus, band,
orchestra, and narrator, and
based upon Max Winkler's own
words, will be performed by the
students and teachers of Nassau
County'as part of the Nassau
Music Educators Association's
annual All-County High School
Festival.
"It is our way of saying 'Thank
you' to a man who always gave
the fullest measure of himself
both to music and to education.",
commented Durrell Blank,
NMEA President. "And it is
particularly fitting that our own
teachers have asked to join their
pupils in this tribute."
Referring to Winkler's im­migrant
background and the
tremendous affection in which he
held America, an affection
documented in the autobiography
of his life, Pennies From Heaven,
Blank continued, "It is also fit­ting
that the title of the work be
the Testament Of An American,
for in the final analysis Max
Winkler left far more in the
cultural fabric of our country
than any single sheet of music
could say.
The students performing in
honor of Mr. Winkler represent
the best musical talent of the
county. Selected by rigorous
rounds of audition from almost
10,000 applicants, the 650 high-schoolers
comprise a chorus,
band, orchestra, and stage band
ranking as among the finest of
their kind in the world.
Each performing group will be
led in concert by a noted con­ductor
chosen especially for the
Festival. The chorus will be
directed by Dr. Fiora Contino of
the University of Indiana, the
stage band by the well-known
jazz artist Manny Albam, the
orchestra by Dr. James Yan-natos
of Harvard University and
the concert band by Dr. Harry
Bejian of the University of
Illinois.
The entire Festival is a
cooperative effort of public
school personnel working with a
private university. Van

Chairman have spent months
organizing and preparing for
what will undoubtedly be one of
the most important cultural
events in Nassau this year.
The program is open to the
public with all tickets priced at
$2.00, and will be recorded for
album distribution by Crest
Records.

Join Your Neighbors Right To Life March
On Wednesday, January 22nd
there will be a 2nd annual bus trip
to Washington to protest the
infamous Supreme Court
decision on abortion. Bus will
leave 7 a.m. from HicksviUe and
will return about midnight. Cost
of the trip is $11 per person,
however rates are decreased
when more than one family
member makes the trip. Please
bring red plastic rose (the
symbol of the Right to Life
Movement) pen, Boxed lunch and
supper as the bus will make only
short rest stops. We will leave the
line of march around the capitol
for a short period of time in order
to meet with our elected
representatives. Anyone wishing
to make a donation to offset the
cost of the bus or pay for someone
to go in their place may certainly
