Savings Bank
The traditional music of the
Holiday Season will be heard at
The Green Point Savings Bank on
Friday, December 20th at 6:30
P.M. when members of St.
Bernard's Choir gather on the
banking floor to present a
program of Christmas Carols.
The program has been
arranged through the courtesy of
Mr. Dan Kinney, Choirmaster;
and Mrs. Dillion, his assistant.
All are cordially invited to visit
the Bank to enjoy the program,
and take pride in the accomplishments
of these
youngsters.
A special evening Holiday Open
House is scheduled for Thursday,
December 26, and Friday,
December 27, at the Old
Bethpage village restoration.
Special note should be taken that
village hours, for these days only,
will be 1:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Special performanaces by the
Ola Bethpage Village Brass Band
are scheduled for Sunday,
December 22, and Sunday,
December 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.
During the evening openings,
staff will greet callers in houses
illuminated by candles and
kerosene lamps. Free
refreshments will be served
throughout the evening at the
tavern, where folk singers Jeff
Warner and Jeff Davis of Roslyn
will perform.
A concert by the Old Bethpage
Singers will take place in the
Manetto Hill Methodist Church at
7:30 p.m., December 26 and 27.
Choral and folk music of the first
half of the 19th century will be
sung by the group.
"Hog guessing," an activity
described in the December 25,
1833, Hempstead Inquirer, will
occur during daylight hours on
December 26 and 27. After this
two day period, a prize will be
awarded to the person who comes
closest to guessing the weight of
the hog.
Holiday visits (Open House)
were described as follows in the
January 6, 1836, issue of the
Hempstead Inquirer: "Hempstead,
of course, was somewhat
lively; for Hempstead has, within
a few years, 'grown quite large
and is or means to be somewhat
fashionable withal.' The ladies
were, in due reason, ready to
receive visitors, and we were
among the callers. We did not, of
course, call upon all our friends;
that we trust would have been
impossible. We saw a sufficient
number, however, to keep us
cheerful for a whole week, and
next year mean to continue the
custom."
Old Bethpage village
restoration, operated by the
Nassau County Department of
Recreation and Parks, is located
on Round Swamp Road in Old
Bethpage. Admission is $2.00 for
adults and $1.00 for children.
Nassau County residents with
Leisure Passes pay $1.50 for
adults and 75c for children. The
village is open from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m., seven days a week except
Christmas and New Year's.
plus dog license fee which is $2.35
for males and spayed females,
and $5.35 for unspayed females.
The Animal Shelter is located
on Miller Place, Syosset. It is
open from 8 AM to 3:30 PM,
Monday through Friday, and on
Saturdays from 8 AM to 2:30 PM.
It will be open from 8 AM to Noon
on Christmas Eve (December
24(. The telephone number is 921-
5120.
"We have found homes for
many dogs through the Adopt-A-Puppy
program in past years,"
Town Councilman Joseph J.
Saladino commented. "I hope
people will open their hearts to
puppy love again this year."
Councilman Saladino reminded
residents that the deadline for
renewing dog licenses is January
1, 1975. Applications can be obtained
at the Office of the Town
Clerk in Town Hall, Oyster Bay,
or at the Town Hall Annexes, 95
Grand Avenue, Massapequa and
65 Broadway, H,icksville.
Margaret Rossomano has been
appointed Assistant Vice
President and Manager of the
Plainedge office of South Shore
Federal Savings & Loan
Association. Mrs. Rossomano has
been with the Association for
eight years.
Children of all ages are invited
to watch the heartless Mr.
Scrooge learn about the good will
of men in the holiday classic, "A
Christmas Carol," during
Christmas week at the Puppet
Theatre in Eisenhower Park,
East Meadow.
Performances start at 1:00,
2:30 and 4:00 p.m. and will be
given from Saturday, December
21, through Tuesday, December
31, with the exception of
December 23, 24 and 25.
Reservations to the popular
series of shows are suggested in
order to assure seating, since
admission, while free, is on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Adults are welcome when accompanied
by children.
The Puppet Theatre, which is
operated by the Nassau County
Department of Recreation and
Parks, is located near Parking
Field No. 6.

Holiday ceremonies are also
planned for several other county
parks, with Girl Scout troops and
others trimming the trees and
caroling.
At Nassau Beach Park in
Lido, on Friday, December 13,
from 1 to 3 p.m., the tree for
senior citizens will be decorated
by children from the Long Beach
Headstart program, who will also
do the caroling. Also at Nassau
Beach, Santa will trot in on
horseback on two other days:
Wednesday, December 18, at' 1
p.m. for senior citizens, and
Saturday, December 21, at the
same hour for the children. Both
groups are invited to tell Santa
what they'd like for Christmas.
Other parks are planning
Christmas tree trimmings on
Saturday, December 14, or
Sunday, December 15, but
scheduling has not yet been
finalized. For the exact date and
time, the public is asked to check
with the individual parks. Participating
are: Cow Meadow
Park in Freeport; Ihwoood Park;
Wantagh Park; Christopher
Morley Park in Roslyn-North
Hills; Bay Park in East
Rockaway; North Woodmere
Park; Grant Park in Hewlett;
and the Nassau County Arena in
Long Beach.
The spirit of Christmas is love.
And what more endearing love is
there than puppy love?
The Town of Oyster Bay
Animal Shelter has plenty of love
to give through its annual Adopt-
A - Puppy - For - Christmas
program. Full-grown dogs as
well as puppies of several breeds
are available for adoption now.
The cost of adoption is $2.00
Shine up those jingle bells and
join the festivities at Nassau
County's official Christmas tree
dedication in Eisenhower Park
on Wednesday, December 18,
from 4 to 5 p.m. (raindatj,
December 19).
Santa Claus will attend the
ceremony in a horsedrawn
surrey, with County Executive
Ralph G. Caso at his side. Local
girl scout troops will turn out to
trim trees and Uniondale's
Lawrence Road Junior High
School Chorus will fill the air with
holiday song. Santa will have
candy canes for the kiddies.
The event, presented annually
by the County's Department of
Recreation and Parks, will take
place in an area adjacent to
parking field No. 7. Caso has
extended an open invitation to all
A colorful Holiday Bazaar will
be held in the ballroom of the
Noon Inn at the Old Bethpage
village restoration on the
weekend of December 21 and 22.
The ladies of the Manetto Hill
Methodist Church, dressed in
traditional garb, will offer for
sale a large variety of useful and
fancy articles, confectionary,
books and toys. Hand-crafted
items include gloves, scarfs, pin
cushions, aprons and potholders.
Whittled items, small stuffed
animals and dolls and doll beds
will also be available. Prices
range from $.50 to $5.00.
All hand-made articles were
made during the year by the
ladies of the village who can be
seen preparing material for the
Holiday Bazaar. Village homes
will have traditional decorative
material and the Layton Store,
with its display of toys and
decoration of the past Civil War
era, will be of particular interest.
